Auto Mamiya Sekor 55 1.8 it came today. Very Happy I will post some pics of the lens later.
I got home after 8PM so I had a few minutes to try this lens out. I will post some real shots later.
But this one is strictly for fun. Laughing I was wondering if you could paint with this lens.
First attempt. No PP.

Painting with Crinums

Picked it up on the bay for less than $16USD including shipping. Here's the listing photo. It does have fungus, but it looks like it will clean up nice.

Good luck with the cleaning Walter. I would love to hear how the cleaning went.
I've had this lens for a long time, and love it when I use it.
Heres mine-

Regards

I think I'm going to like mine.

I have this same lens, too. I like it a bit. I found it has a good level of detail. Here is a photo and a 100% crop:

I like the way it captures colors and contrasts, especially within similarly-shaded and tone-shifting objects, such as the rocks and pine cones.

I have seven M42 lenses now (just got three more this week), and I really like these old, hulking monsters. Sure they don't give my DSLR any metering data, but it just means I have to do some quick lighting estimates in my head. The results are pretty nice. i'm working on a large write-up of an M42 field day I took this week, but, in short, something about a modern lens, all designed by computers with superb precision, has less romance and intellectual beauty than a lens designed by a bunch of old-timey engineers with slide rules.

A lens I really like. I still have my copy which survived all my "selling actions". Wink

How compare it with the 1,8/55 takumar?

Someone did that comparison?

That I'd like to see. Hopefully someone has both.
I'd also like to see how it compares to the next lens I plan to buy. The Minolta Rokkor PF 55 1.8.

Regardless of any comparisons, this looks to be a great lens, Walter.

Thought I'd try it on a tube. ISO 400 at f5.6 on 14mm tube. Slight cotrast boost, and no other PP. NOT a Crop.

Nice macro! Looks like the focus is on the leading edge of the wing?
Focusing is always a lot of work in macro with extension tubes.
I truly love the "color look" of the Mamiya glass.

thought I'd like to get one of those and try it..'

I glanced up at the clock to see the time, and there, next to it was...

Well you have probably guessed the rest Sad

Ooops

Too many lenses, too little time!

That's the best I could do. The bee was moving pretty fast and I was doing the bob and weave trying to keep up with it. Smile Hopfully I will find some slower bees. Laughing I've done very little of this type of macro so I will keep practising and hopefully get better.

I think this lens will get regular use on my 10D. I really like it.

Oh gosh, I wasn't criticizing the macro shot. I already had assumed
that you had to bob and weave like mad! Very Happy Actually that is what I
meant by "a lot of work". Heck, maybe it's a good way to stay in shape!

Hey Doug!

You mean the lens was hanging on a nail next to the clock? Laughing It
sounds like you could be swimming in a bunch of lenses. Cool

I'm ALWAYS practicing. I guess we ALL are! Part of the fun, because
there's always something to refine. Laughing

What camera are you using it on?

PostPosted: Thu Aug 25, 2011 5:35 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Canon EOS 10D. The shot has been cropped to show detail better.
Original shot.

I have this lens and like it a lot (try and get the 2/50 with A/M switch,it is a beauty as well)...it is too hard for me to tell about the sharpness at infinity but the colours are still great!

PostPosted: Thu Aug 25, 2011 12:09 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I had the lens and sold it on, not due to any performance issues so much as rationalising my collection and also having a few neglected lenses that deserved homes where they would be more appreciated.
Once cleaned up I can see a few lovely pics coming out of that lens.

Thank You. I will keep an eye out for the 2/50 at the right price. I'm thinking about adding the 3.5/200 also.

Thank You. I know what you meen. I've really added lenses over the last year or so.
I should sell some, but instead I'm setting up kits to use with different cameras. Very Happy
I have a few lenses that need to be cleaned including this one. I really need to take some time and get them done.
