As some of you know I bought a Contax Zeiss 60/2.8 S-Planar recently. While I did get some superb results from it, I found it large, and somewhat heavy to hand-hold.

I decided to try the "C" version which must be less than half the weight and is very compact (perhaps more-so than the very compact Nikkor 55/2.8 Micro).

Shot some quick test images straight from the post office where I picked it up.

This is wide open:

100% crop.
I think this is it for me, that lens that works for what I love to do.

yummi yummi! Smile

Carl and Zeiss and Makro (with 'k') and Planar is a magic blend in optical world!

I simlply love that lens (I have not got C-version though)

Mark - you must try infinity as well

hi mark
if you don't need the 1:1, the C version is a great portable choice.

Trifox, I've been a pro photographer for 30 years. In all that time I've probably shot .01% of my images at infinity. Especially with a macro lens, I want it to be great at macro. Infinity? That's for Ansel Adams. Wink

Orio, so true. I would rather use tubes and have a smaller lens. What are the best choices for tubes, just a standard C/Y mount generic set?

Here's another sample at f/4:

100% crop.
It was windy and I missed focus by a hair. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Confused

Even "missing the focus", the shot of the "fluff" is outstanding in its
clarity.

What a great lens...and not too shabby of a photographer, either. Shocked

It's not a matter of "too kind". It's a matter of truth. Your images, and
especially your macro images, are one of a kind. As you know, that is
VERY difficult to achieve in photography. You are achieving it.

Laurence, you made my day. This is something that I do try to achieve (unique images) and have spent many years pursuing. It can be a lonely pursuit and being appreciated is so important to any artist. Thank you.

Photography is my life's work. I hope that one day I'll have a very strong body of macro work and will find a way to do a high quality art book.

Color me happy.
Very Happy

I must say, I thought Laurence was being too nice, but then I headed Kram's flickr page and, honestly, Laurence doesn't make it up. You're great, man! Keep up the good work!

congrats!
I see a lot of chromatic aberrations on the dandelion shot, I never see that on the normal 60, can you make a comparison of the 2 versions
