Close up work with a Meyer Oreston

The Oreston is one of my favorite normal lenses.

Anyway I tried to do some more close up work, this time I think let in a little too much light, as opposed to last time I used extension tubes where I didn't let in enough light, but the results are better anyway.

Are the pens part of another hobby?

The pictures came out OK, you are right.
I should give the lens a try for macro I see, I pick the Pancolar most times for that kind of pictures.

I do some illustration for fun and profit. Unlike my photography it pays for itself... but pens and ink are also cheaper than cameras Laughing

Shots are very nice. I know little about macro but I think it would be better to have more diffuse lighting to fill in some of those harsh shadows. Oreston is an excellent lens, mine is always in my camera bag just in case.

Nice results. Bokeh quite busy, but pleasant enough.

As Ian suggest, perhaps a fill flash? I sometimes use a hand held gun with some bubble wrap over the head.

Yes I think I should have used a reflector. I'll keep it in mind next time.

The bokeh is a bit busy but that is grass in the background I kind of like the effect, although the six bladed aperture creates a rather obvious effect on the blur. Undecided on whether that works or doesn't work with the subject at hand.

I took my Oreston out with me and shot these with my NEX today, I like this lens a lot, the bokeh and colours particularly.

I find most of my Meyer lenses have similar bokeh too, on of the things I love about them.

Nice shots!

Yes the oreston has distinctive blur. In some cases I do like the hexagon highlights, in others I don't. It depends on the situation. I'll have to do more close up stuff with it in the future.
