This lens would make snapshots into works of art. And if the retail price $ 1,843 is true, then this is actually not that expensive at all. However, the price is already similar to that of Canon's 35mm f/1.4 L so I'm not sure if I should invest in one. For one thing, there's no authorized service center for CZ.
I like the portrait shot too. The yellow car provided good contrast to the subject

The Distagon 1.4/35 has a low distortion, as you can check in Zeiss' data sheet:
http://applications.zeiss.com/C12578620052CA69/0/1C09E8D38F338457C12578690028E4CD/$file/distagon1-4_35mm_e.pdf
The distortion peak, reached at the edge of the frame, is of 2% of the image height, which is close to the lowest that you can get from a retrofocal wide angle design.
2% of image height (at the frame edge; in the middle it is lower) means that in 90% of common photographical situation, the distortion is irrelevant.
Sure, in extreme situations, such as photographing a building from up close, you can detect some, but in order not to, you should use a non-retrofocal wide angle,
and a nearly perfect one at that, such as the Biogon 2/35, whose distortion stays at 0% for most of the frame :
http://applications.zeiss.com/C12578620052CA69/0/8B0311D44FCD838CC125786400471C37/$file/biogon2_35mm_zm_e.pdf
