I remember when I bought my first copy of Contax Distagon 1.4/35 in year 2006. I paid for it, 350 Euros. It was an MMJ copy.
Following to that, almost immediately, I bought another copy, an AEG, for a little less than 300 Euros. It is the copy that I love using the most (I don't know why).
A couple of years later, I bought another, immaculate AEG copy, really like new, for something around 480 Euros if I remember correctly.
Out of curiosity, I made an Ebay search today, to check the current prices of the lens. Here is what I got:

849 Euros, MMJ, from Germany:

1089 Euros, AEG, from Germany:

1191,60 Euros, AEG, from Japan:

1141 Euros, AEG, from Czech Republic:

1122,18 Euros, AEG, from Czech Republic:

note that this copy is almost surely the result of a surgery which used
the front ring (and possibly front element also?) from a Rollei copy (note the HFT coating)
Seller does not mention the fact.

These samples are all from commercial sellers. Are these market prices or more the result of a good phantasie or the chance to find a buyer with no price feeling ?

I notice this effect with other lenses too ( for example few Leica lenses ) and especially the guys from Czech Rep. have price ideas beside good and bad. But I notice also that the lenses are offered for a long period and then suddenly removed without any sale.

But anyway - general rule "prices are still increasing"

Wink

It's bad description. The lens is original in Rollei mount as can be seen on last photo. I think, that this version is even more uncommon than C/Y.

Yes, correct about the mount.
Right, the Rollei version is more rare, but not the best choice for a DSLR unless you want to modify the hardware, because there is no Rollei to EOS adapter that preserves infinity - and infinity is a crucial feature for a 35mm lens.

I was watching this one, but no funds to bid that high:

Not so bad for MMG version and seems to be a good condition.

We are a part of that price development.
Some years ago, when we started only few people knew about the quality of those old lenses on a DSLR. Now, that has become a well known fact.

Perhaps like Carsten says it is really my fault Embarassed in fact I promoted this lens really hard.
Last year at the used camera fair I saw one on sale for 400 Euros, having already three of them and being short on money I let it pass - if I see one at the next fair for the same price I will buy it to resell it here.
