I'm posting for now two shots.
One of the shots is with the Minolta MC Rokkor X PF 50 f1.7 at f1.7.
The other shot is with the Minolta MD 50 f2 at f2.
Can you tell which is which without looking at the exif data?
The shots are of an Angelona flower the blooms are really small. Both shots were taken minutes from each other in the same lighting conditions.
Shot on my 10D in AV mode.No PP on either shots just resized.
So Which is Which?

I'm guessing that the bottom is the f17 because it's slightly brighter. Assuming the same shutter speed (I am), the 1.7 would let slightly more light in, thereby brightening the image. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/hancockDavidM |

That's one reason I did this comparison, but there is another.
The 50 1.4 goes from 1.4 to f2.
The 50 1.7 goes from 1.7 to f2.8.
The 50 2 goes from 2 to f2.8.
Of course these are only the first 2 stops on these lenses. It just makes me wonder why own a 50 1.7. It just dosen't seem worthwhile for the difference.
I will test at all fstops to see if I consider this lens worthy to keep or not. _________________

Firstly....just to play the guessing game for fun.....top=2 bottem=1.7 light and bokeh factors. (go on then.....publish the answer)
I too tried to compare 50's with different speeds....to find which is best.
http://forum.mflenses.com/50mm-carl-z-canon-fd-pentacon-opened-to-max-power-t40789.html
However all I leaned was.
1) They are all good and worth keeping and playing with. (My Precious......)
2) Some have closer focus because of the travel in the lens. (lets twist again)
3) Some are easier to use....focus without changing apiture etc.
as a result I now have my favourite..... and its not the CZ. |

I will post more results as I test the lens. But if I had to choose right now between the 50 1.7 and the 50 f2,the 50 f2 would win hands down.It is so much easier to find focus with. _________________

I am late to the party & the answer is given but that was my opinion. The reason I was going to say #2 was the 1.7 is because I see a slightly greater DOF in that shot. _________________ Ron
