Welcom to this forum!

The register distance of Nikon F mount is longer than exakta mount so there is no way to make an adaptor with infinity.

For more information, please read the sticky post on this section: http://forum.mflenses.com/adapter-availability-for-different-camera-systems-t23945.html

I see, what about canon? are there any adapters for canon that retain infinity focus? or pentax, or any other DSLR?

I'm particularly afraid, to test it on my canon 50D, will mirror hit the barrel of the lens? I don't want to break expensive camera for few old lenses (gems but still).

Registrations:

Canon EOS: 44mm
Exakta: 44.7mm
Pentax: 45.46mm
Nikon F: 46.5mm

I am not familiar with EOS adapters. Those worried about mirror impact should measure their EOS and Exakta lenses, see how much protrudes beyond the mount base. Or obtain a junked EOS film camera and test on that, where you don't care about further damage.

I am able to press-fit unmodified Nikon F lenses onto my Pentax bodies. The 1mm difference doesn't affect infinity focus. This is not a secure fit. To use Exakta lenses on Nikon bodies and reach infinity, you would either need an optical adapter (losing IQ) or to destructively modify the lens.

I should be able to reach infinity with Exakta lenses on my Pentax bodies by shaving ~2mm from an M39-M42/M42-PK adapter pair, when the lens has a thin base. A wider-base lens would require destructive surgery. To use an Exakta lens on a Nikon body requires either an optical adapter or lens surgery. I don't know if an M39-M42/M42-Nikon adapter pair could survive shaving away 3mm.

While we're talking adapters, let me plug my paltry eBay sales. My ID is r*m and I just listed T-mount adapters for FD and OM lenses, and a Nikon-Konika K/AR adapter. I start all adapter sales at US$0.05, yes, that's five cents, one fat nickel.

Hmmm, I forgot to post an what I think is an Exakta T-mount adapter, marked KE. That will be in my next listings. And maybe a Nikon-Adaptall mount. And I certainly don't need the M42-Praktica bayonet adapter, nor the two T-mount adapters for Minolta MC-MD. I'll list some fine MC glass in a few days, and those adapters will be with the lenses. Is anyone here interested in minty MC glass?

so it seems I'm out of options?

I've to buy a new camera, which system would u recommend to go with exakta optics?

I found allot of 4/3 adapters for them... is that feasible?

Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised

Easy my friend!

I remove focus part of lens and install the optic part inside the macro tube! Yeah! I Use Soft cover to slide lens to get focus and block bad light.

.....

Four third's register distance = 38.67mm (a bit odd number)

BTW, Micro four third = 20mm,
Sony NEX system = 18mm.

Try to fix an Topcor lens f 58mm 1:1,8 to fit my Nikon D3100 body.
Not an easy task, ordered adapter for m39(LTM) to Nikon F mount, and some tricky measurment to do.
There is a diff of 1.8 mm. closer for the register range between Exakta to Nikon.
Well yes, waiting for adapter and then fine works with tools, if I found the infinty point... Rolling Eyes

Welcome vargfar!

I did start as Nikon user with a Nikon D50, I had interest to use other lenses on D50 than Nikon made once hence low price. Most lenses require custom modifications and DIY mod = ruin lens. I did quit and bought an Olympus E-1 due much more compatible with other systems. .... and mirror less cameras did come like m4/3 a second hand m4/3 body price affordable by every one ~ 200-250 USD and almost any lens mountable on it. Modify a lens pretty silly solution vs use a mirror less body.

Nikon actually made a nikon/exakta adapter, part of a brief technical flirtation I believe. It does NOT provide infinity focus. I use mine to adapt an exakta Novoflex bellows to my Nikon.
