Adapter: Exakta lenses to Canon

I know, there may have been some threads about mounting Exakta lenses on Canon DSLR. But.... I start a brandnew fresh thread, because I think that there might be a few interested in this topic.
I understand that reaching infinity is not always given, because of the small difference between Exakta's and Canon's lens to camera registers.
At Ebay, I see adapters with two slots for the locking pin. Will that mean, I can use two positions for the Exakta lenses, So it might be possible to use the automatic lenses with the external release, too?
Anyone experiences with makeras and sellers of this Exakta adapters? Bad or good experinces?

Klaus

Klaus,

The 2 positions on the exa-->eos adapters will actually help you avoid the expanding aperture release mechanism hit on the top of the slr . The difference is that the lens is off centered by ~45 degrees but thats ok Wink My exacta CZJ Sonnar 4/135 works perfectly in my 5dii . The aperture release mechanism at position 2 looks downwards. I usually lock the aperture release mechanism and use the aperture ring .

I use the Cam.plus EXAKTA/Topcor to EOS adapter. No infinity with Tessar T 3.5/50 exakta and don't remenber about the Sonnar 4/135 right now Razz

Thank you very much for your insights about the two slots.
Hope to get more opinions about different makers/sellers.

Greetings

Let me think. I have got one EXA-adapter but I would not recommend it.
It only has one tiny screw that is supposed to fix the lens the to adapter, but it doesn't really work with some lenses.
Another problem is that the oroginal EXA mount reaches too far through the adapter so that the 5D mirror hits it.
You can either shave the mirror or sand down the mount or not use the lens on a 5D - or you do what I have done with my EXA Biotar: I have superglued in into a LeicaR-EOS-adapter and accept the lack of infinity focus. Wink

The only one I used (a while ago) could not even mount the topcor and was relatively useless at locking in the only exakta mount lens I have. Topcors now have replaced (non-destructive) M42 mounts.

Some information about Exakta to Canon EOS adaptor.

For full frame cameras: Use thick adaptors. Most wide and standard lens will hit the mirror.

For aps camera: Use the thin adaptors(~0.7mm). Most lens should not hit the mirror especially those aps-c cameras.

Dear friends!
I have bought Meyer Trioplan 100mm lens and now I need the adapter for my 5D. Maybe someone already has found the qualitative adapter exakta-eos which doesn't touch a mirror on 5D and can advise the seller on ebay? Focus on infinity isn't so required to me with this lens.

The seller claims this adaptor can be used on 5D. Any member here can confirm this?

I got that one yesterday.
First experiences:
Those lenses with an arm for the expanding aperture release mechanism do not work with that adapter, because this expanding arm hits with its back the adapter and so the lens can not be mounted on the adapter.
This was with the Zeiss Jena 25mm f/4.
Probably other lenses work - it is only ~ 0.5 mm if I remember right?
On the Zeiss Jena 25/4 I have opend the back cover of this ram, a very larege spring is inside. Without that cover the lens could be mountet.
The lens index is located downwards - you have to move the camera to see the iris setting.

On a EOS 1000D crop camera I had no problems with the mirror.
On the EOS 5D I have problems - as expected.
The adapter itself is a bit too much protruding into the camera, the mirror hits, and I see the image which ~20% vignetting on on side.
Probably the adapter could be optimized a bit Smile Next to test for me.
The lenses are probably protruding a bit too much too. Not sure about what I do: Mirror shaving or lens barrels optimization.

A Berogon 35/3.5 and an E.Ludwig Meritar 50/2.9 are planned to be used with this adapter too.

With the mechanics of this adapter I have a small problem: The small slider that looks the lens sometimes move too easy - and make it impossible to mount the adapter too the camera. I tried to mount the adapter with that small slider all times looking upwards - rotating the camera to mount. But that doesn´t help much. Had to push the slider a bit with a screwdriver to mount the lens. But probably I need a bit more experience.

Can you tell me - what about the adapter from Exakta to Olympus?
Is there any way for the lens to be used NOT wide open?

This is my lens, aus Jena DDR 28./135. I'm trying to sell it
