Today a rather exotic beast, a french CERCO f4.1 94mm quartz/fluorite lens made by SODERN/EADS for UV-VIS-NIR photography.
That $$$$ lens is available on special order only, but I was able to find a single used one for sale.

Here now some purely visible light shots to judge on quality, all shot using my GH1 and at about f5.6





























Well, let me put it this way: Even my Apo Lanthar would have a hard time beating that one Wink Wink

What's that blob in the air in the first picture? And 2nd reaction: where did you find those flowers? Smile

That blob is a branch of that tree I was shooting through when I aimed at our castle here. All was shot at Herrmanshof park, just opposite my home.
And yes, finally spring has come here (usually 3-4 weeks earlier here in Weinheim than in other areas), we have full sun since about two weeks now, up to 12degrees centigrade.

And no, I only payed $$$ for it, a very lucky find, originally made for scientific photography and used in front of a light amplification tube.
It seems to work also without quite well.

Regarding CA, it is worth to have a look at that Super-Apo lens performance: No CA, even in super high contrast conditions.

This lens is a sharpness monster and the colours are great.

You present very special lenses to us, Klaus. Thanks for that!

I start to feel a strong urge to go down to Weinheim and have a look at all those marvels.

Hmmm... it's only 160km.

Well, I have used a very steep 400-700nm cut filter to restrict the range to the visible and not catch some blurring UV or IR light, that lens was designed to transmit as well.

I had made transmission measurements and found out, that it is actually much better performing than the results presented on the makers website (!), although it only has a specialized single coating. It is very sensitive to flare as well, so needs a very deep sunshade, which I had used for those shots.

And no, my lab is way to messy and full of dangerous equipment to be presentable, not even close friends are allowed to enter ... Wink Wink

A few more a few days later...





















Still amazed by its sharpness, ability to separate from the BG, absolute lack of any CA and its, for me, quite pleasant bokeh. A very long double multiturn helicoid allows approx 1:1 magnification, very neat for my use, but not for quick shots; catching bees in flight is hit-and-miss Wink

A special industrial version of Nikon-F (which does NOT fit a normal Nikon body), intended for fitting an image amplification tube.

The Cerco 2085 UV lens has been designed for intensified CCD video cameras with UV photocathode (Ø 18 or 25 mm) ; this UV
objective is also usable on SLR camera in full manual mode or on UV CCD cameras ; image capture from ultraviolet to near infrared
is achievable without refocusing from 220 nm to 620 nm. This UV lens is delivered only against volume order (minimum 10 pieces)

Yeah, he was sleepy but had an eye on me (as his lady was around diving for food), so I had to convince him
to pose for me a bit, which he finally did. Just a matter of patience... I was astonished about that result too.
That new 18Mp sensor and that lens are in great harmony it seems Wink
