Welcome! That's a nice collection What camera will you be using? I think.something wider than 35mm might be advisable, whichever camera you have. _________________ Graham - Moderator

I am agree here, I like Fuji for soft pictures and nice boke. And think that it is really good lens for traveling.
Minolta 2.8/135 - also is great lens. I think about it but what do you think regarding Vivitar 2.8/100? It is not so fast lens, but has not so big focal length like Minolta? To my regret, I do not have lenses with focal length 80 or 85... |

I'd take the lightest for wide angle and telephoto and the fastest of your normal glass for low light situations.
Unfortunately, your E-3 is a 2x crop, so the lenses won't be that wide after all. 135mm seems quite long then. |

I don't have that particular 100 Vivitar but by all means, it should be a good alternative for a 135 - personally, I'd take any 100 or 105 before a 135, but then I don't get along with teles. (Who made your Vivitar by the way?) _________________ -Jussi

I think it is from Tokina (37), but I do not remember exactly. I will check and write of the manufacture later, from home. |

If the Vivitar is indeed made by Tokina, then it must be very good.
BUT, since the 2x crop gives you the advantage for tele why not have a greater reach? I prefer 270mm@f2.8 than 200mm@f2 any day when I need a telephoto lens.
A 100mm@f2 would be better in low light, maybe in concerts where 200mm should be enough, but on a vacation I would hunt birds and street portraits, so the higher focal length, the better. |

Yes, I've checked it - Vivitar from Tokina, S/N starting from 37xxxxxx. It is really good lens, I will review Vivitar for trip.
I don't know exactly yet, but may be, I'll buy Minolta 85mm@1.7 or Konica 85mm@1.8 before trip - it will be great.
I know, sometimes you need tele lens, especially in the park or mounts. For that case, Minolta 135mm@2.5 is more preferable then Vivitar 100mm@2.8. From other side you can use lens with focal l. 80mm or 85mm in the more common cases them 135mm. |

It's an Olympus E3, so with 2x crop.
That's why I'd choose:
- Vivitar 3,8/19 (at least some wide angle, ~38mm)
- Konica Hexanon AR 2,0/35 (as a longer "normal" lens, ~70mm)
- Vivitar 2,8/100 (as a longer tele, ~200mm) _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Need a faster lens too for example 3/35mm Konica.
If you not go to zoo or don't want to make candid shoots 135mm don't need.
You will miss really wide lens, what is not possible on 2x crop even with your widest lens.
I suggest to take a film camera too for your 24mm lens , that will be wide enough in most situation + Provia 100 slides. _________________ -------------------------------

It is seems, I have final decision regarding my lens, from standard and telelens I have chosen Fuji Fujinon 1,4/50 and Minolta MD Rokkor 2,8/135. Both of them are very good, Fuji and Minolta enough soft lens and also have a very nice boke. Except that - Fuji quite light and fast lens, that is very great possibility to shot in the forest or in the evening.
About 24mm-35mm: I am thinking now for Tokina RMS 2,8/24 or Kiron Japan 2,8/28. From one side it is not fast lens but have quite wide angle for most situations.
What do you think about my choose for wide angle lens?
To my regret I do not have film camera, only Oly 3/4. |

I had that Tokina and it was rubbish. I may have had a bad copy.
I'd take the Kiron and if there's room the 19mm Vivitar. Get a lens hood for it though as it's useless without. _________________ Casual attendance these days |

martinsmith99 - thanks for advice regarding lens hood, without hood - these lens some times are useless in the sunny days, but I expect a lot of sun .
I have bought the lens hoods for all my lens on eBay, it is not so expansive but very handy.
Also a small question about lens hood.
What difference between a tulip lens hood and a circular hood? What is the best for normal lens, wide lens and telephoto lens? |
