For sale a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 3.5/50 with red T and an aperture with 14 blades.
Exakta mount. Preset type lens (f/3.5 to f/22), Minimum focusing distance 2.5 feet.
Near to the "Tessar" name there is a strange marking, a "1" written over a "0" and above something like an underscore. I ignore the meaning.
According to my Zeiss book, this lens (whose original design dates to February 27, 1932!) was built in year 1952 in a batch of 2000 exemplars, released on May 17, 1952)
A very peculiar characteristic of this copy is that it is the very first copy of that batch!
The Zeiss Jena book lists as first serial number of the batch, the number 3692001, which is exactly the serial number of this lens!!
I guess this makes of this lens sort of a collectioner's rarity. Smile It also makes it sadder for me to sell it. Sad
I am sure that this lens was made for export to an English speaking country, because it has the distances printed in feet instead of meters.
In Eastern Germany Zeissland, this usually means better quality control and higher guarantees that this is a good copy (which indeed it is)

As some of you may know, I am very fond of this lens. I think it has an extraordinary image quality and almost unparalled "3D" look.
I think that this is the best Tessar model ever designed (at least that I have experience of). The 4.5/40 comes excellend second to this lens.
I have an M42 copy of this 3.5/50 lens which I will keep with me forever. I now need to raise money and so I sacrifice this lens which is now for me a luxury double.
The 14 blades make for perfectly round bokeh highlights at all apertures. The red T coating ensures excellent resistance to flare.

Aesthetical, mechanical and optical conditions are excellent. Focusing is a little bit stiff due to age, but perfectly workable.
Glasses are incredibly clean for a lens of this age. I rarely saw glasses so clean and clear in a lens of almost 60 years.
Glasses are of course also free from scratches.

I sell this lens for 105 Euros, but I can take 5 Euros off the price if you pay with bank transfer.
Please ask for the shipping cost.

The circled out "1" is a quality label of the former GDR and indicated the best quality they had!!
