I was re-organizing my gear the other day & took a photo of my Nikkor & 3rd party Nikon mount lenses MF & AF...64 in all, most acquired over the last 35+ years, except for a bunch that I got when people started dumping their MF glass after going digital (glad I didn't make that mistake!)...All are different, no duplicates, except in focal length. Now I need another cabinet for my RF's, TLR's & my Konica 35mm camera/lenses...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have room for 3 or 4 more lenses there? Very Happy Excellent orgy of lenses, my friend.

Great Scott! Shocked (Sorry, I just had to use this pun. Wink Taken from "Rocky Horror Picture Show", btw.)

Scott, the huge lens at the right corner, the one with the integrated hood, is this a Sigma 21-35?

I see that you store the lenses upside down. For a particular reason?

Anything more about it ???? Smile

Lucis, since u r the man for manual zooms, suggest a few cheapos that are way better than ongear canon 18-55 ??

Carsten,
You nailed it, that is a Sigma 21-35, but it is the AF version. Really nice lens except for the propensity to flare, even with it's built in hood. I have always stored my lenses front element down (with the exception of the Sigma & it's non removable hood). BTW,that Sigma AF version has better MTF scores than it's MF relative ....

Scott, this is a lens with rather characteristic looks. So if you know it, you will recognize it when you see it. Wink
I agree, it's a really good lens. Much better than you might expect...

I have read that storing the lenses upside down will prevent the grease from flowing onto the blades.
But then I have heard that you should allow some light falling into stored lenses. No I do not know have to combine these two hints...

The problem is that there are very few MF zoom lenses that start at 18mm. There is an Exakta 18-28mm but as far as I know it is not a good lens.

I have a very nice Tokina AT-X 2.8/24-40 and a nice Hoya 3.5/25-42. But they are not that much cheaper than the EF-S 18-55. Confused

The Tokina 2.8/24-40 is really good if you can do without the 18 to 24mm range...

Well i am aware that at the wide end it becomes a problem,
I am looking at longer end,
Vario-sonnar is supposed to be excellent but it goes expensive,
There was a topic on ML35-70 being very good,
etc.. !
As for wide end i think the canon is alright for the price tag, it is corrected for the Crop sensor too...

I am looking at really quality options..

The Sigma 28-85 is a nice lens.
And you also can find a Leica Vario-Elmar 35-70 for quite a decent price.

I have seen the example shots by this Phenix 18-28, it is not bad at all.

Attila, if you can find Prakticar PB-mount of this lens get it please.
I was looking for a long time, I will buy it honest. Very Happy

Wonderful collection Scott!

It's nice to see I still have a long way to go before it gets logistically more complex to leave for an assignment Very Happy
Do you ever experience problems like now where is my 50/2? Razz

PostPosted: Wed May 06, 2009 10:36 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yeah, I have to do some searching every now & then to find one I'm looking for. It's especially aggravating if the lens is in one of my bags & not the cabinet...
