I guess Olympus OM 28mm f2.0 is sharp I didn't try it personally.
I remember for Nikon 28mm f2.0 as okay, usable.
Kiron 28mm f2.0 is okay usable. _________________ -------------------------------

I absolutely love it, and even though I've never done any actual testing or pixel peeping, it always struck me as rather sharp as I like to shoot wide open.
At f/2 handheld, no PP
Not the best image but gives you an idea. And I know you're looking for sharpness, but the contrast and color wide open are great.
I got mine for $125 and it's one of my go-to lenses on my APS-C.
I have heard great things about the vivitar 2/28 but they actually go for decent prices it seems. |

About the same here. I have both the VS1 28/1.9 and the V 28/2 CF (Komine) (both in K-mount trim), and, while I have had the V 28/2 CF for only a short time, I am starting to like it better than the VS1 28/1.9.

You won't find anything with more sharpness at f2.
30mm on NEX-3, albeit with some PP:

Yes, it's an interesting story how the Pentax K 28/2, the Zeiss 28/2, and the Contax 28/2 all started out with the same design (from the same designer, Dr Erhard Glatzel). _________________ Fred

You will pay several hundred extra for the CV over a bargain SLR 28/2 but it is so much smaller the usefulness is greatly enhanced.
For fun, as I know it's not the budget, again the 28 cron on the Nex 5-n:

Certainly, overall the best 28mm lens I've ever seen, if you have the right body. Importantly for landscape work, it is one of my best lenses at F/11 also.
If I could not have it, here would be my next stop:

I think all of them are sharp enough wide open. I couldn't see a huge difference between Vivitar (Komine) and Kiron.. both are sharp enough wide open. The Fujinon was a bit above them, but only if you have the chance to directly compare them. I sold all three of them only because I used my other more. The UC Hexanon and the Zeiss aren't this much sharper wide open, but they have a more pleasant rendering for me and a better coating. The Minolta is my only 28mm with AF.. that's why I keept this one. _________________ Regards

Vivitar had a few folks make their 28/2 lens. You are looking for lenses that has a serial number that starts with 28. Vivitar had a 2 digit code that noted the manufacturer.
Yes very good deal. +1 to either the Komine 28/2 or the Nikon 28/2. Both which I have and seems to satisfy my criteria for usable sharpness wideopen. Although those Leica results is causing me to question my satisfaction :p _________________ Currently shooting with Fuji X-E2s + Metabones Speedbooster + m42 and CY glass 💕

Wide open sharpness of my Vivitar made by Kiron, serial starting with 22, is also impressive. On the net the Komine is the preferred one though _________________ my photos on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kuuan/collections

The Nikon 28mm f2 AIS is one of the best MF wides for full frame Nikon users, which means there is more demand for them which probably pushes up prices. Vivitar had a few folks make their 28/2 lens. You are looking for lenses that has a serial number that starts with 28. Vivitar had a 2 digit code that noted the manufacturer. |
There are dozens of Vivitar 28's, and several 28/2's. The best 28/2 is the Komine-made "1:28/2.0 Close Focus Wide Angle", with 28 for the first two SN digits, just as RnR said. The other 28/2's are all Kiron-made and the first two digits are 22.
Be aware that there is also a Komine-made "1:28/2.8 Close Focus Wide Angle", too, which is labeled on its bezel exactly the same way (except, of course, for "2.8" vs "2.0"), but would not be the 28/2 you're looking for.

Personally I found the regular Vivitar 28/2 lenses from Kiron and Komine unacceptable wide open. I haven't tried the close focus version though, which is supposed to be better.
Tried the CV Ultron 28/1.9 which was nice, but a pretty long MFD of a metre or so. Worked nicely on the nex-5n I used it with at the time though.
My favourite on a cropper though is the Nikon 28/2. I owned a non-ai version and it was very sharp from wide open. Wished I never sold it, but I was focusing on ff gear at the time. _________________ Graham - Moderator
