Wow this must be a really weird first post!

Anyway, I am a wanna be photographer who is still trying to figure how enjoyable is photography in the first place.

I have recently purchased a dSLR to get away from my semi-manual point&shoot but haven't had the chance to use it since its winter and the time hasn't been much either.

Manual vintage lenses are of course an addiction and I have been caught by it! I currently own a Yashica ML ƒ/1.7 and I add already decided I was not going to buy anything else other than the C/Y adapter for it and start practicing my skills. I did buy this one since I wanted the so-called essential 50mm prime but I was not happy with Canon's nifty-fifty since it costs +$100 and is all plastic.

However I have now came across a deal I am a bit reluctant in letting go and really need your opinion on either to forget about it or to take the chance of making a good purchase.

These are the goods:

Body: Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL
Lenses:

    Auto Mamiya/Sekor ƒ/1.8 - 55 mm
    Auto Mamiya/Sekor SX ƒ/3.5 - 200 mm

Accessories:

    Tele converter 2x
    Grip
    Flash
    Bag

This is all equipment purchased in the 70's and by the looks of it, and seller's description, it was not put to the test too many times. I haven't had the chance to see it in person but I have arranged a meeting sometimes next week. He states everything is in mint condition.

The seller is asking $90 and will only sell as a whole.

As I have researched the 55mm seems to be quite a good lens and on eBay they few that are selling are over $100, I am assuming they are overpriced, but I do not know the reason. I have found some pretty decent shots which do not disappoint.
The 200mm prime is probably not the best lens in the world. I was not able to find much information about it though (that says something I guess).

The rest of the package is "rubbish" to me since I am no vintage cameras collector and I really do not need the body/grip/flash.

So, what is you guys opinion on this? Is there enough value for the ~$90 price tag (plus the M42 adapter so I can actually use the lens)?

Thanks in advance! Very Happy

Price seems OK to me, perhaps a little high. Will you be using the other stuff, or just the lenses? Might be better value if you will be shooting film too.

Great name by the way!! And welcome Smile

The price is high.

The body is worth maybe $10 - I just sold a 1000DTL for that

The 55/1.8 can be picked up with a body for $20 easy
They certainly don't go for $100 !
Even the Mamiya 55/1.4 can be had for under $100
And you can get the same lens as a Chinon or Ricoh for less.

The 200 SX should be in the $10-20 range also. And there is nothing special about it. Its a Tokina lens, and it doesn't have an A/M switch. You can buy essentially the same lens as a Soligor or Vivitar with an A/M switch.

Can you haggle/barter?
I have the Mamiya Auto 1.8/55 M42 and I love what it can do.The SX I would not bother with, but have no idea of it's quality. The SX have some little extra bit on the mount that can be a problem.(going from memory so may be off slightly)
Have a read on this site to get an idea.

Thanks for the help so far.

The seller seemed like he had his mind made up. Only very hardly I will be able to buy the 50mm only. Nevertheless, and since the rest is really not worth the trouble and the lens isnt as valuable as I expected that is what I will propose again. And even if he agrees in the end only hardly I would get a price reasonable enough for the lens. I mean 20 bucks? That's it? Bah.

Oh well.

The seller is delusional. luisalegria is right about most of the values. My Mamiya-Sekor 55/1.8 cost me US$14 not long ago. (I recently bought versions of the 55/1.4 branded as SEARS AUTO, one for US$26, the next for US$2.25 -- and I cleaned that and sold it for US$35). The rest is basically trash. I sold a 500-DTL body for US$0.25, yikes! and a 2X TC for US$2.25. I bought an equivalent to that SX 200/3.5 for US$8. No value, no way.

Thank you all who participated.

I will not be purchasing anything from the seller unless he contacts me and he agrees in selling just the 50mm for say.. 15€ which I don't think he would anyway.

Thanks again. This topic can be closed to avoid old topics being accidentally reborned!
