Since I spend less than 50 € I thought:
CZJ Tessar 50mm f2.8 (which version? which is MC? How is "zebra" version? There are many!)
Pancolar CZJ 50mm f1.8 (costs a bit more ...)
Pentacon 50mm f1.8
I do not understand what is the difference between Pancolar and Tessar!
I have a 58mm Helios 44m-7 is very good as made, so I'd like a lens of at least equal value!
what about? _________________ if you like photography, maybe you should visit my site!

I don't have Canon experience , but I never heard about problem here. Hopefully Canon owners will confirm it. _________________ -------------------------------

Olympus OM is fine on a Canon DSLR.
As for the Tessars, it came in at least three SLR mounts:
1. M42 50/2.8 (cheap - should cost about £20.00)
2. Exakta 50/2.8 (cheaper - should cost about £10.00 but no infinity focus on a Canon DSLR)
3. Contax / Yashica T* 45/2.8 (expensive but superb, around £150.00 but won't fit on a full frame camera such as the 5D).
The Pancolor is a much better lens and is faster with a maximum aperture of f1.8, but is also more expensive. _________________ Graham - Moderator

From my experience I suggest:
Meyer Oreston 50mm f1.8
Mamiya 50mm f1.8 & 55mm f1.4
Helios 44-2 58mm f2
I am also sure there are other very nice lenses in M42 (like Pentax Takumar for example) but I have not used them
If yoy want to try other mount I strongly recommend any Olympus OM Zuiko you can find, especially the MC version of Zuiko 50mm f1.8 and the Zuiko 50mm f1.4 |

I think the best cheap 50mm lenses are the Yashica ML 50mm lenses -f2, f1.9 or f1.7 - whichever you find the best deal on. My 50mm f2 was $7 and it is really good. _________________ Canon 30D + some AF and MF lenses |

Most are OK, but as I mentioned before, Ricoh PK lenses have long bits sticking out of the back. Some will not even click into place on a crop sensor Canon _________________ Graham - Moderator

Takumar 55 1.8 is about as close to the Helios 44M-7 that I could get without breaking the bank. TBH. its going to be hard to match the Helios in an affordable price range I think. |
