Hi everybody,

I have a questions as above and which lens do you choose? What are the main different? I've found that Triotar is older than Sonnar but I like and old stuff. Laughing

Thank you for all questions.

Don't can you get both? Wink

I own both of them, and it would be difficult to me to select one to keep. Maybe the Triotar is a little more sharp and the Sonnar has a better bockeh (IMHO).

I definitely will keep both... Smile

Jes.

I used to have both lenses, now I only have the Sonnar because it's superior in my opinion.

Khan if you wish a triplet lens, I'd recommend you check Meyer's Trioplan, which is a better lens than the Triotar in my opinion.

Sonnar however is preferable to both in my opinion.

Great pics Orio, you make me stunt with the sharpness and bokeh of Sonnar.

I have Meyer Optik Trioplan 2/100mm, Exakta mount. I found that it give best bokeh but not sharpness. Anyway, I'll try it again.

Thank you for the good link, Attila. Laughing

Look here for my Triotar and samples:

From a size point of view, the Sonnar is much more compact and manageable.

Thanks a lot Jes.

I visited your post and found that you have the great gear.

The Zeiss Triotar is completely different than Meyer Trioplan.

And in the right light condition the Triotar is tack sharp and with a great 3d effect.

On a crop camera the Triotar doesn't show its greater weakness, alas the softness at the borders.

Identical optical scheme (Cooke's anastigmatic triplet).

I know they're both triplets, still their rendering is completely different, probably caused by the different minimum aperture or the glass used, I don't really know, I'm no optic engineer Very Happy.

Triotar at f4 is sharp, Trioplan is still very very soft in a dreamy way. At f8 and above they're about the same with the Triotar still sharper though.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, actually I love both of them.

And one more note pre-war Meyer lenses are sharp like Zeiss ... pre-war Triotar also sharper than post war.

I have two copies of Trioplan.
My first copy (late 50's) gives very noticeable glow at F2.8 and is sharp stopped down to F4 - as you can see on this photo:

Older version (mid 50's) at F2.8 gives slighter glow than the first. When stopped down - isn't as sharp as first copy (but is still good).

I haven't any experience with CZJ Triotar - but at one time I'll buy it. I'm dreaming about old, chrome version made in 40's Smile

Old chrome available time to time on low price on Ebay I have two or three copy of them . One looks brand new, and not works at all, another has broken aperture and might be third ok Laughing
