Hi, new to this forum and was wondering if anyone has experience of the following two lenses that I have just got my grubby paws on. Havnt used them in anger yet though. They are:
Vivitar 28mm f2
Mitakon 24mm f2.5
both are FD mounts

The Vivitar is most likely the Kiron made version. Check the serial number; if it starts with "22" its a Kiron.
If so, it is a very decent lens but it is prone to sticky apertures due to dried-up lubrication. You should check that the aperture works. Its not that hard to fix but will require disassembly, patience, and plenty of lighter fluid.
Mitakon is probably yet another merchants trademark for lenses made by someone else. Post a picture and maybe someone can ID it. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

I'm using the Komine version (28xxx serial) of the Vivitar 28/2 on a Canon 5D and it can be quite sharp up to the corners if you focus it right (not so easy to deal with the curvature of field without live view) and stop down enough. This lens needs a hood, otherwise contrast gets low. The 23cm MFD is nice. The Komine has better bokeh than the Kiron and is a bit sharper I believe. |

I am currently accepting donations of FD mount lenses .
I'll echo Luis on the Vivitar/Kino. Mitakon may be a Mitake tradmark. I don't know much about them. _________________ In Search Of "R" Serial Soligors

Trev,
since you are new to the forum: when writing in the manual focus lenses section, please try to make more descriptive subjects than "grubby paws" - which does not help our search engine at all. Thank you. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Thanks for the info chaps.
Luis - its definitely a Kiron lens as the serial begins with 22
Orio - I'll take your comments onboard
Tkbsic - I wont be using them on canon AF cameras as I am aware that using fd lens to eos with adapters is a bit of a problem |
