It appears that there are three holes around the serrated front lens, with small set screws underneath. Do I need to remove them to reach the front lens? As for the front element, there definitely is an infinity stop somewhere that you need to remove in order to unscrew it, my gues is it's under the ring held in place by the little screws. They are probably grub screws that can be just unscrewed but left in place.
Mine is just a guess, so take it with a grain of salt. 
Edit: maybe the ring itself has a dent inside and acts as infinity stop. |

I need to be careful though. There's some gears inside to couple the wedge on the arm to the lens. Nice system, more reliable than those moving mirrors.
Do you see those white spots on the black paint on top of the camera (near the leather handle)? The paint is not rubbed off there, it's just a reflection of the window.
How much I paid for it? You know what a 55mm f/1.8 SMC Takumar is worth? Pocket change, that sort of money...

Get a set of high quality jeweller's screwdrivers, they'll cost a few tens of euros but will be worth their price in gold: a small slip with the screwdriver, or worse a stripped screw, will be very hard or impossible to fix.

Just saw this posting and joined the forum.
Peter, that Super Ikonta surely still looks very good. Did you manage to clean the middle lens element ? If not you must have a look at this webpage were the lens/shutter of a KMZ Moskwa is shown during a repair. The Moskva mechanism very much looks like that on your Super Ikonta.If you want i can send you also some photos of my Moskva shutter repair which show how to remove the frontlens.

I haven't tried to clean it yet, because I discovered that my screwdriver set was not small enough. So I have ordered a smaller set.
That link picturing the Moskva repair is very extensive, I think that's enough information, thank you for offering to send me photos of your Moskva repair. If these are digital then maybe posting them here is a good idea too?

By now I have been able to remove the front lens element; this was easier than I thought. I tried to clean the focusing helicoid and that worked, but the focusing is still a little stiff after re-attaching the front lens ring (the focusing is done with a lever on a moving ring on the lens standard; the front lens ring has a slot that fits over the lever). I'll have another look soon!
In the meantime I also found a nice example of the Zeiss Mess-Ikonta 524/16 (the one with non-coupled rangefinder and Zeiss-Opton Tessar lens). I expect to receive it today. Folders can be and are still fun!
