Hi,

After giving a lot of thought, I decided to go for Minolta 50mm or 58mm 1.4 MC and change its mount to sony A mount. I chose it over Takumar 50mm/1.4 for two reasons: 1) I want to practice changing mount Very Happy and (2) I have one spare M42 to sony adapter which I can use. I have few questions with my first endeavor:

1) Which is better: Minolta 50mm/1.4 MC or Minolta 58mm/1.4 MC ?

2) In each focal length which version is better PG or PF?

3) How difficult to change mount of these lenses? I know many people have converted minolta 58/1.2 PG to sony mount but I think every lens has its obstacle to overcome. So if anyone has converted this please let me know if they faced any difficulties with the conversion.

The both lenses are quite good, but PG is slightly better I think.

You can check their lpm values here > http://www.pbase.com/kkawakami/rokkor_lens_resolutions

I have never done to convert them to Sony alpha mount, but I did convert some MC lenses to EF mount.

It might be a little more difficult since you have to trim the lens base more than EF conversion, and
the mount sizes are similar. But if you have Alpha mount metal, it is hopeful.

Sorry for shameless self promotions, wish you luck to convert MC lens to alpha mount.

hope it helps a bit...

Just won 50/1.4 PG so I guess discussion ends what lens to buy Very Happy. Anyone have any idea how to convert it. Is it same as for minolta 58/1.2 to sony? Sorry for sounding like an idiot. This will be my first lens to convert and I guess it is natural to be nervous.

I have both lenses and I think that the 50 MC is sharper, but the 58 has slightly superior bokeh

Can you put up any samples from these lenses?

Good luck. I have the lens and consider myself rather clever, but have been considering for some time how to go about it cleanly.
