More Velvia - Pentax 645

At the risk of "taking over" the board with my past multiple posts, here
is another Velvia shot that really emphasizes the dense colors that
Velvia is capable of.

Moderators: Just let me know if I'm posting too many individual images;
perhaps I should combine them if I'm not doing this correctly.

I actually had to soften this down and de-saturate about 10%, because
it looked too strong. I think now that it is close to the actual colors and
texture.

Blue Irises
Pentax 645
Pentax-A 75/2.8 lens
13mm extension tube
f:3.5 and 1/250th
Velvia RVP-50 (expired 06/2007)

Confused

Glad to hear that, Attila. Smile

My wife wants a 16x20 of this, as she feels the colors will brighten up
a wall. With the larger 4.5x6 transparency, I can do this with a capable
300dpi.

laurence, we are the beneficiaries of your posting--i look forward to them, and this image is an example of why. thanks!

i have a role of velvia in my pentacon 6, and am waiting for a nice day and interesting environment to take what would be my first medium format shots...

interesting, the deep colors of the velvia reminds me of a new group of schneider kreuznach lenses i just got for the kodak retina reflex cameras. the colors are similarly deep, bold and gorgeous on my 5d.

Thanks Rebel. I'm not all that "big" on floral images, but the Irises are
always good for colorful shots, that's for sure.

Interesting, I've heard from another source, a photographer friend, that
his favorite lenses for bold coloration on transparencies, as well as
digital, is his Schneider-Kreuznach series, along with Velvia or Provia. Shocked

And, as indicated above, I actually had to push this image into Photoshop
and back off the saturation to keep it believable. Shocked

Hi Laurence,

another great image with wonderful colours. Please post more pics. It is always a pleasure to view your images.

The Velvia does a really good job - today I bought 10 rolls at my local dealer but with 100ASA.

Thanks for sharing.

One of my favorite films is the Velvia 100. Very Happy Frankly, I can't tell the
difference in rendition from Velvia 50, and it's sometimes nice to have
the extra stop. A superb, dense film. I look forward to images from you.

I've also "heard" that Velvia 100F is "not as good" as Velvia 100. Again,
though, I just can't tell the difference, so I don't hesitate to purchase
either one when a good price comes up. I guess I might see a difference
under a good microscope, but I don't view images with a microscope. Very Happy

Today I gave up a Velvia 100F at my dealer for developing. I´m curious concerning the results. On Fuji website they explain that the F-version should have an improved saturation.

The salesman at my dealer who is responsible for films told me today that most of his customers buy the "normal" version.

And since that the 100ASA is not poorer than the 50ASA I bought this for one additional stop.

I would be curious to see if you detect an appreciable difference, Rolf,
that is if you have any other Velvia images to compare with.

Your work is beautiful, technically excellent, and an inspiration.

I'll join you soon I hope with some P645 slides.

Hmmm....that's what I always think about your work, Nesster. Laughing

I can't wait to see your application of 645 format to your work. It took
me a while to sort of be "friends" with my Pentax 645, which I think is
to be expected with any system.

Since I´m scanning colour and slide films my first reason for the decision is the grain and sharpness as well. The Nikon is very sensitive so that is the main point. Saturation, colour etc is only a click within the PP.

Maybe I would think different if I would own a slide projector, but I sold mine many years ago.

Great use of Velvia 50!
Shows me that the RVP is not only for the Greens, the Red is amazing.

I have mixed results with Velvia 100 and 100F. The 100 seems to be warmer that the "F", good for yellow, orange and blue.
The 100F is more allround with good saturation but also the magenta cast, hard to control/remove.

Darn, I didn't want this to look digital. I think that I might have gone
too far in smoothing the background with the Blur tool...?

For printing, I'm sure it's fine, and my wife will be pleased. However,
I'm going to bring up the original transparency again, and try to
process again.

Hey Carlsson, I've had good luck with using color correction for any
magenta in the scanner. I use it for both 100 and 100F. The original
transparencies do not show the magenta for me, though. That doesn't
mean it's not there, I just don't see it on the lightbox. I will project
a few 100 and 100F slides soon, and see if it shows up there.

Carlsson, this is a follow-up on projecting a few slides.
I see no hint of magenta or purple, and that is comparing
three types of slides: 100F, 100, and 50. Maybe I'm just
lucky, OR maybe that wasn't enough of a comparison. Confused

As a side note, I sure LOVE to see the projected slides. Cool

Yes you are posting too many GOOD images. Please refrain from this and post some bad ones so the rest of us can look good. Laughing

Nice work! It's good to see that film is still put to good usage.
