I bought bunch of cine lenses for macro work (reverse usage). And I got one huge lens as a part of that bunch. The lens was,
TOMINON Lens IBM P/N 1674037, 1:4.5, f=230mm, Made in Japan, 749916

Seems like some copier lens, made by Tominon and used for some IBM machine.

Its huge..

There was no way any SLR adapter can be used. The lens is almost 3 inch in Dia. Finally, plumbing deptt of home improvement store helped. Using 3" to 2" flexible connector, few extension tubes, few different adapters and finally camera, I am able to make it usable.. or atleast test-able..

The final set up is like:

Lens - (3" to 2" flexible pipe connector) - (Nikon Ext Tube) - (M42->Nikon adapter) - (M42 Ext tube) - (EOS->M42 adapter)

Instead of using M42 ext tube, bellows can be used, but only for macro work. As lens assembly/size stops the front part (lens) to come near the camera (Bellow movement mechanism stops). So the lens is fixed focus, but can be focussed by changing the ext tubes (using different lengths).

Test results... that surprised me..

(You can go to full size pics by clicking on the posted pictures, at flickr)

Test shot of Bournvita pack. The subject distance was about 15 feet from the camera. No flash was used.

Test shot of Sesame street Book cover, captured from about 3 feet. Flash was used.

100% crop

Ballu, an IBM lens (did anyone remotely suspected that such a thing existed?) now that's what I call an eccentric project! Laughing
But I love your pioneering efforts Smile

Yes Orio... If we send the details to some IBM executive, they will go crazy with IBM name on the lens (with part number). (may be, will start.. why IBM didnt start consulting to Nikon and Canon)...

You are right Attila.. the front-side view gives the image CZJ Sonnar...

Thanks... (more DIY stuff is coming future)...

I would never have the nerve or the imagination to undertake a home-built like that - neer mind the skill involved.

Thanks Patrickh..

I tried to use the lens for portrait purposes.. Its not an easy thing to do with fixed aperture, fixed focus for a particular set up...

Looks like an old lens or lens with haze.

I think it's a little bit misaligned : look at the luminous bokeh spot in the tree.
