I was looking through some transparencies in a box, picking out the
medium format transparencies to consider for scans.

Anyway, back to the subject - I ran across this weird slide. I remember
the time and place, it was at a beach on the Olympic peninsula named
Second Beach in the Winter of 2008. The mist was heavy and
moving, and the sun was showing all sorts of weird beams and things.

This particular image, looking straight into the sun with the Pentax 645
and 200mm lens, makes the sun look like some sort of comet or
other incendiary planetary body, RUSHING across the horizon. All
the weird lighting effects are from the pulsating mists flying around.

I haven't done any manipulation to the image, but do any of you think I
could do something with this? It almost looks like the sun is creating
a "bow shock", and that some of the sun's matter is streaming
off behind it.

All in all a pretty strange beast of a shot during a pretty strange weather
pattern.

This is just a cut-down 300dpi scan of the original. Any ideas of what to do
with this would be welcome. Perhaps it's not worth doing anything,
I'm just on the fence with this. I WANT it to be something cool, but
don't know what others' opinions would be.

This is not a typical photo that one gets everyday so by itself it is already quite cool. Maybe can tweak a bit more on the contrast and see if it enhanced the photo more?

What does it look like on a small print?
It reminds me of something you may see in relation to save the planet or just what an amazing place this earth can be....like one of those National geographic photos.

This one grows on me the more I look at it. The story behind helps the imagination. What a magical time it must have been! The image is really interesting with the cast sky-shadows & beams. At first I thought a 2x3 vertical format cropping might work better (crop on left side to beginning of 'comet-tail' just to left of foreground small rock, smaller crop on right side), but now I think the entire frame shown remains the best.

Thanks all! I appreciate the feedback. I'm going to leave the original
alone, and have printed a small print to prop up by my computer. Maybe
I'll get a flash of inspiration! Very Happy
