The biggest in the oiled Laughing ( cartoon memories) drilling my one and only maple tree.
Canon 50D+ 70-200/2.8 L IS USM, f/4, 1/320, iso 200, just resized, no sharpening or colors applied.

Excellent capture, pretty amazing you could get to this close.

As I said, the bird was drilling a maple tree in my backyard.
I took the picture from the kitchen's window almost at the same level with the woodpecker.

That lens is modern and top quality. I'm not surprised by the sharpness. I have the F4 version and it's hard to fault.

Fantastic capture!

There was one woodpecker, years ago, that used to drill in a cherry tree on the hill behind my property.
He made such a loud sound, he used to wake me up every morning at sunrise Mad
But aside from that, it was lovely.
The one here was green though.

And it was much smaller, I presume.
The small ones come and go also, but everytime I was off with the camera or untill I got the camera it was too late.
