I have and love my 5 dollar 28/2.8 and am talking with a guy to buy his 50/2 and 135/2.8 Yashica MLs.

Anyone have any experience with these lenses? Good? Bad? Yea? Nay?

I report from Rino Giardiello's page:

2/50 ML = good
2.8/135 = good except wide open

Yashica ML 135mm has two versions one is marked with "c" on front ring , this lens has poor IQ. Another one is nice lens.

Yashica DSB 135mm lens is excellent sharp even at wide open.

The ML 50/2 is a very nice lens. Sharp from wide open, excellent colors and contrast, very resistant to flare. Its major advantage is Helios-44-like swirly bokeh, yet without Helios faults such as inconsistent quality control. For $10-15, this Yashica is a must have.

As Aoleg says 50/2 is excellent well worth buying, sharp and with nice bokeh too, very good build quality, smooth and easy to use Very Happy

I own the ML 50 2 and it is a very nice lens, and compact. the truth is that I barely use it as I own the 50 1.4 and the 50 1.7; I was going to sell it but at the end I kept it

My ML 50mm 1.4 is excellent lens

The 50 1.7 ML is very good too; I would say sharper than the 50 1.4 but again, the one I use most is the 50 1.4

If you play around with the Yashica lenses, there is the better Yashica DS-M 1.4/50mm i did have.

I compaired the lens vs. the Yashica ML 1.4/50mm. So the DS-M version wins.

The 2.8/135mm ML and DS-M are average lenses. Both Lenses in ML and the 135mm DS-M are not as good as the rest of the range from 24 to 200mm.

The lenses i can recommend from ML and DS-M, are the 24mm, the 35mm, the 1.4/50, the 4/200mm in both lines.

regards
