This afternoon I went to a wonderful gig of Balmorhea with the pianist Nils Frahm as support.

Balmorhea is a fully acoustic band consisting of 6 members varying from Piano and Guitars to the Cello and Violin. The genre is hard to put in a box, it's probably a combination of modern classical and post-rock. All I can do is recommend you to take a quick listen by following this link: http://vimeo.com/1745080?hd=1.

This was the first time that I attempted taking photos at a concert and I do notice that my Canon 450D is a bit limited because of the noise showing up quite quickly at a higher ISO. However the conditions at this particular place were not so bad and spot metering worked perfectly. I've decided to use the Carl Zeiss Planar 50/1.7 and I could even put the aperture at f2.8. Which is what I used at all my shots.

I hope to get some feedback on this!

Not a single reply? Sad

Don't worry, it's nothing personal - people are busy posting their own material and perhaps don't have time to reply. Personally, if you hadn't posted a follow-up comment, I probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to look at these photos Laughing

That Planar 1.7/50 is a very sweet lens, and one I'm ashamed to say I haven't used all that much. There's a great sense of activity in these images, and the fact that the players are multi-instrumentalists is quite impressive.

Good photos, good exposure.

Indeed, I figured many photos coming in since I posted. Though I hoped that one would look further down atleast. In my opinion, seeing Concert photos is a bit rarer here so I'd check them out sooner.

Anyhow, just one guy is playing multiple instruments, however he's able to switch instruments during a song which is quite amazing. Also the Planar is indeed amazing and I just love how pure the colours are. They are basically like they were at the gig itself and no post processing was required at all.

Added one from the other bandmembers, not the greatest photo as the microphone stand is 'again' in the way.
