Hi, I am in Tokyo now. I bought a lens the next day I got to here,
here is some test shots from our short life in Tokyo. Camera is D700,
RAW, C1 developer, photo size is all 1500x1000 except 100% crop.

@f1.4 focus to a tall building (hotel) through thick window glass of our hotel

@f1.4 focus to almost the same distance, both has vignetting but sharp at far distance

@f1.4 hotel room, just checking distortion

@f1.4 at a fish restaurant, cousins checking menu ~1.2m away

@f1.4 my wife ~0.7-0.8m close

100% crop of the above (very sharp)

@f1.4 Menu at 0.5m close

@f1.4 fish of today, 1.5m away

@f1.4 3m away, wall and lighting of our cubicle (flare a bit, strong ceiling lamps) I also bought Kenko Pro1D 77mm Protector filter and used

@f1.4 my wife @hair salon about 2m away

@f1.4 County mark in ASAKUSA, probably 0.6m to this

@f8 the same object

@f9.5 cake-molds very close range

@f1.4 lantern of very old restaurant (this area is the very downtown of old Tokyo called "EDO")

@f6.7 Red umbrella at sweet eatery after shopping in a rainy day (about a meter to the center)

@f2 Mural of Asakusa subway station (you can see slight barrel distortion and vignetting) 4-5m away

That's all for today.

Great set, Koji-san, love the shot of the missus in #5, great lighting, and
the colors and detail of the red parasol, for faves. What lens was this?

Thanks for sharing scenes of a country I sorely miss.

Yes, great set!

I am also curious about the lens!

If a lens guru such as Koji just writes 'lens' it must be something extra! Wink

Great set of photos! Master Koji is keeping the lens a mystery Wink I'm interested what's in front of the camera too!

Congratulations, this is one AF lens that makes really convincing images. It renders lovely both wide open and stopped down. Very good microcontrast. A bit of barrel distortion, but more than acceptable. Flare resistance so and so if judged against T* standard... but maybe ok if compared to other AF lenses.

The first shot... really gives me anguish. All that concrete jungle until the horizon. It made me think of the description of planet Trantor in the Foundation novel. The county sign images are very moody, I like them.

P.S. I edited the subject line to add the AF tag.
