Ever regret selling a lens?

I just wanted to know if you've ever sold a lens, and then kicked yourself for doing it. I have to say I've been beating myself up over selling a Soligor 200mm f2.8 on ebay a few months ago. It was like new, and the pictures were the sharpest I've ever taken. It put my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 to shame. I had a big idea I wanted to get the Bigma (50-500mm), so I sold a bunch of manual focus stuff I had. Embarassed

My vote:
Soligor 200mm f2.8

Welcome to aboard!

Common mistake Sad To sold valuable old lens for almost nothing to get a sharp looks good plastic lens and ... after a few month we figure out sharpness is not all.. need something more ...personality,character, bokeh etc.

No, I have no regrets for lenses I have sold. The not-good ones, went away painlessly, the good ones, went to friends like Carsten or Attila or others on this list, so for me, it's like they stayed in the family.

Anyway, you've come to the right place to restart your manual focus lenses collection. Welcome! And feel free to ask for advice on manual lenses.

Common thread in all sorts of forums. Buyer's remorse has often become seller's sob-story. Very Happy Very Happy

@Orio

How do you decide which piece of gear to use at any given moment? I have two cameras and 50 lenses and that's bad enough

It depends on the situation, Patrick.
If I have a specific goal, I know which lenses I need. Example: if I go shooting the carnival parades, which happen in February, Sunday afternoon, I know this means lots of crowd, impossibility to get close to subjects, relatively fast action and not much available light given the time of year.
So I know I must take with me the fastest tele lenses that I have in my line-up.
I pretty much purchased the Planars 1.4/85 and 2/135 in order to be able to shoot the most possible in this kind of events, which I love the most.
If I go to shoot an architectural place, I know I will need my Fleks and Distagons.
And so on.
When instead I don't have a specific goal, but just feel like going out and photograph anything, I take with me the lenses that I feel like in that moment - Sultans must do the same in their harem I suppose Wink

That's a very nice picture of you!

Soligors are quite common, I bought a 3.5/200 myself a few months ago for 16 Euros. It is very good and sharp wide open.
I am sure that with little or no wait, you will find another Soligor like yours on Ebay. So cheer up!
