Anyone know anything about Rayxar lenses? I came across a few pictures today of the Rayxar 50mm f/0.75... wow. Shocked

I don't know that much about them, but I do know that they were made in my country (The Netherlands). I also know someone with this lens. As the name implies it was used for X-ray photographing.

I don't believe it's completely usable on most cameras. Do you see the optical diagram? At the right is a line marked with "FP" and that's the Focal Plane which sits close to the last element. It's fun though!

Great find!

Yep, seems like it's a lens from some hospital X-ray equipment. The fast lens means you were exposed to less X-ray radiation.

I don't think there's an iris, so it's gonna be tough to shoot Wide Open all the time with limited/no focus capability. Kinda reminds me of adapting all those barrel lenses from the turn of the century Wink

Some amateur astronomers have also used this lens to make wide-field shots of the night sky. The fast lens brings out even the faintest of stars.

From old Xray machine, very short back focal distance of few mm (millimeters) only. No focusing, no iris. Tough to use as you get only some 10 cm in front of the lens for sharp focus moving the camera/lens back and forth. Wow, I didn't realize how close it would be to the film!

Hmm... might actually be a decent lens for a micro four thirds camera then.. no mirror to worry about, easier to adapt to be close to the sensor, and live view so that you can see what you are doing. Maybe even enough space to add a short set of threads to be able to focus it?

Interesting!

What camera(s) have you been able to use it with? Are there many of these floating around, or are they pretty rare?

THis is how I finally was able to take a few pics with it! Before it was impossible!!
Problem is the weight as it would break off the mount if you only try to hold the camera!!
