Hi Folks,

Just got myself a nice Yahsica ML 15mm f2.8 fisheye lens for 200 Euro. Any opinion on this Yashica lens?

To get the full advantage of its 170 degrees FOV in FF, I was wondering which budget Yashica or Contax 35mm SLR should I buy? At the moment, I shoot mainly with my Olympus E-300.

Thanks.
Simon

Simon, welcome!

You're going to love this lens on the e300, as Orio has said once upon a
time, it's the poor man's Distagon, but an excellent performer! I have this
lens and it's my favorite 28.

Hi Bill,

That's great to hear. I am looking forward to trying this lens out. Do you have an online photo gallery using this lens? How do you find the distortion of the images? I think the lens creates an uncorrect fisheye image right?

Bill, this is the 15mm Fisheye, I don't have it.

Sorry, Simon and Orio, misread the post. I'm not familiar with this lens,
either, but if you see the Yashica ML 28/2.8, get it!

Hallo!
Please send us any pictures.
I think, I was bidding too for this lens (up to 70€).
Concreatulations for this lens, under 20mm it is so expensive.

regards Peter

Welcome Simon - I think many of us would love to see the results of this lens, even on the E300. I too have the 28/2.8 and am astonished by the price/quality of it.

Hi Everyone,

Cheers for the well wishes and comments. OK I must confess that I rarely post here, I can seen more often in the "other" well known MF forum.

Sure, I will definitely post some photos once I get a chance to test out this lens.

Thanks to a nice German gentleman called Martin, I am able to find more information about this the entire Yashica ML series. Here is the link:

Looking forward to trhe results I have a small collection of MLs they range from average to excellent. Shame to use it on a crop sensor only though Sad can you borrow a yashica film cam to see its true Fishyness?

Looks like a very good lens. Compares very well with the 17 Tokina.

Finally,

After a long time, here are some images on the full frame 5D! Things have moved on since I bought the lens.

Cropped to show its sharpness!

Enjoy!

Beautiful image series.
I got my Yashica 15 ML about 2 weeks ago and it is a beautiful sharp lens, so I sold my Zenitar Fisheye.
I only have to fix a stuck focusing ring which provides only shots at about 1m. At fully closed aperature, I can reach sharpness at infinity.
Only have got a crop camera, but this year all my lenses will show their quality on a FF.
