Stan, how can you use the CY Planar 1.4/50 on the 5D Mark II ?
I can only mount it on APS-C cameras. On Canon fullframes, I can only use it wide open, due to interaction of camera+adapter with the aperture lever on the bottom of the lens, which does not allow to stop down lens.

BTW nice samples but this comes without saying Smile

Hi Orio

Am I mistaken or don't both the examples say they are taken at wide-open?

By the way I have used mine on an EOS 7NE and best of all the EOS 1-n RS where the mirror does not move...

Orio I used more than one 50/1.4 on my 5D. The MM version worked very good. The non MM sometimes had the blades stuck and I got one side of the photograph black. But if I touch the lens the blades closed and I keep photographing...

Now one friend told me that he had to remove a little piece on the lens back to use it on his 5DMKII...I didn't see which piece he was talking about...

+1 for the question of Orio....

I just ordered my 5DII and the 1.4/50 is my next lens on the list. Cool

It's not the mirror thing poilu. And not only at infinite.
It's the iris that does not close. Something is blocking the aperture tab in the bottom of the lens.
This happens to me with both the 5D and 5DII
With the 50D it works OK so probably by careful comparison of the cameras, one should be able to understand which part of the camera body is blocking the tab.
It really sucks, I'd love to use the 1.4/50 on full frame.

don't know but could be the aperture tab who touch the adapter
you should be able to unscrew it and bend it a little

Would this compromise the functionality on Contax cameras in your opinion?

If I may answer, no, not when you cut it down by a few millimeters.
But I think the problem is more adapter related, there are newer version with a smaller pcb, allowing the aperture tab to move free.

Thanks for all comments Smile and

Orio -- I didn't have a problem with Planar 1.4/50 on my 5D mk II even without shaving my mirror ..

So the shape of the mirror on 5D MkII may vary or adapter can be different..

I think that good thing will be to take a picture of may adapter and show how it looks like ..

I'll post one of mine too (adapter) I THINK that it came from Photodiox, but I have so many adapters (24 Adaptall type, half a dozen T4 and 12 4/3 and EF/ EOS,,, ) I am afraid I have lost track!

Doug.

PS I always had good feelings about jinfinance (eBay ID of seller of adapters) but the Minolta - 4/3 one I bought recently had a small hex grub-screw that stripped its head first use... Sad
