The smoothness are propably caused by longer tubes and very close distances
i.e. -- 21+13mm = 34 mm which VERY CLOSE and the Tessar doesn't have a chance like on the picture number 4 from the top..

Excellent color and sharpness where it's called for, you have the photography eye for sure.
  oh, and the next to last pic: sheer envy, I've tried to take such a picture of berries for years now, and not one is as good as this.

Very contrasty lens I would say the Tessar . It's not so much the sharpness but the contrast that gives that clarity.
