Good capture poilu. We won't see butterflies for at least another 2 months

Yes, that's really good. Even better with those conditions against you.

I was surprised too, must be a God gift...thanks Him

I mention the conditions because I wait more from the 5DII so I credit the weather

Handheld macro is not easy at all with the thin DOF, especially with a 100mm lens. I would have gotten for sure much worse results.

Well done!

I love how you can see all the little hairs on its body.

Nice one Poilu. You really get the most out of that 60mm.
Why don't you take a tripod sometimes? Or maybe a monopod.
I find a mono gives at least the two stops of hand shaking. Neither help against the wind but the 5DII is good even at 6400 with such nice light Wink

I can forget tripod for this butterfly, he was alone and I shot him in 3 places, I would had need 1 hour to setup the tripod, and the but would not wait

before yesterday I did take the tripod as I wanted to evaluate the 5DII
I shot the flower at 100 iso but I could not go nearer, it would need to remove the central column and spend 5 min for the setup
so I take second shot @ 400 iso handled

my lesson:
in tripod shot I could not reach the ideal position, half of the heart is oof, the worst is that I didn't spot it with liveview
it is always some wind and I cannot go down 1/100, so tripod is useless
without tripod, I need to go down to the field, sometimes in Haley position, and see more bugs

tripod

100% tripod, oof

handled

100% handled, 400 iso didn't harm too much

Incredible results! Macro needs very steady hands and it looks like you've got 'em! To catxh a butterfly like that is astounding, but the flower just pops out at you Smile

Oh, and LOL at the Haley position Laughing
