hey folks, i just received my new kuribayashi 180mm:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150407619114&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1182

it has an aperture ring above that you pre-set by pulling down and turning; then the next ring down opens up the lens to focus and closes it down to your pre-set as you turn it.

problem is the focus ring, which i assume is the zebra ring, absolutely does not turn, pull or push!! it doesnt move at all, and i cannot for the life of me figure out how to focus!! i feel pretty silly, but it is obvious i am missing something very basic. i contacted the seller who was no help at all. does anyone know what i am not doing????

thanks!
tony

It's the Zebra ring indeed. If it doesn't move then chances are that the grease in the focusing helicoid has dried up. To be fair: my 105mm version has a very stiff focusing ring too.

Ask the seller if you can get a partial refund and have the lens CLA'ed. It's worth it!

peter thank you so much! just to be sure in my own head, there is no trick to this, right? the zebra ring should simply turn, no pushing/pulling or in any way connected to setting up the aperture rings? i just want to be able to eliminate any possible replies by the seller and understand myself!
thanks

No; there are no tricks to focus it. When it's mounted to a camera then the focusing ring should turn freely. Nothing more, nothing less.
