Wow, nice photo. If I were there, will be feeling very insignificant in the midst of nature.

I usually don't like infrared pictures, but this one is superbe.

yes... great one. Also interested in medium, lens or whatever from equipment. I suppose that it is digital.

Thanks very much,

This was taken with a 40D that has a “clear glass” IR conversion. That is the internal IR cut filters have been removed and either replaced with clear glass or simply left out. In the case of the 40D there are two internal IR cut filters (AKA “hot-mirrors”). I had one simply taken out and the other replaced with clear glass. The one I had replaced is the “shaker” glass that supposedly is the dust remover.

I shot with the Canon 10-22 lens. There is an issue with this particular lens when converting a camera for IR. The IR focal point is farther than with other lenses so when converted, the camera has to be calibrated for this particular lens for the AF to focus properly. I did not have the camera calibrated for this lens making it Manual Focus only. (No problem!)

This shot came out in color and the BW conversion was a simple default B&W conversion in CS4 then some slight curve tweaking. IR can have very dramatic skies if one shoots 45degrees and further away from the sun. The blue gets very black as you see here and the shadow detail is very interesting.

Thanks again

Jules

PS. The hill in the background is Canyon Lake Dam, a very large earth dam with a good sized lake behind it.
