Wow, very smooth &/ creamy. This lens does not seem to have any
weakness even at bokeh department, and cheaper than C/Y 85/1.2. Very Happy Very Happy

Thank you Trifox very much for this. Laughing

Trifox, a question:

How easy (or difficult) will it be to undo the conversion to your 85/1.2?

I ask because I own the SSC Aspherical flavor, and even though I swore to myself I would never convert this lens, I might could be tempted if it was reversible without too much difficulty.

hi Cooltouch .

Some points to this conversion - it's difficult - but -- you propably know those endless posts on different forums on web.

This process is IRREVERSIBLE -- If you're NOT 100 per cent sure -- don't cut it.

Your SSC version has ASPHERICAL element (FD 85 f1.2 L has 'only' aspherical SURFACE Smile
which puts your lens ON THE TOP of this trio:

1 - FD 85 f1.2 - SSC - ASPHERICAL - the best optical performance -- more than aperture 8 blades (I don't know exactly how many Smile
2 - FD 85 f1.2 L - 8 aperture blades
3 - EF 85 f1.2 L - autofocus.. -- I don't know the amount of blades

once you've done it -- you can not take it back - but when you see the results on good camera then you'll say: YES!

That's what I need. That's what I want. AND MORE THING

You can still USE this lens (without some features, of course) on EOS film camera. Smile

An absolutely terrific lens, and your samples showcase it very well. You should get hired by Canon to promote their lenses!

***An absolutely terrific lens***

Well yes, but there must be a lens out there that comes near for a fraction of the cost. Giant killer lens comparisons are very interesting for those who don't have deep pockets.

Thanks for the feedback. The 85/1.2 Asph has 9 aperture blades. I think the EF version has 8, but I'm not sure about this.

Well, I just can't bring myself to doing a permanent conversion on this lens. I still use it frequently on my old Canon F-1. Besides, that new Samyang 85/1.4 sure looks interesting, so I think I should just save my funds and get one of those instead.

It would be interesting to see a head-to-head comparsion between the Samyang and a lens like yours. I'm thinking the "L" will probably have the edge when it comes to color correction.
