Goodmorning ,
i just got my first mf and i cant wait to get my hands on more .
So i m looking for a portrait lense that i will probably use both indoors and outdoors and in that case i believe an 85 mm would do the trick .
I also want a 28 or 35 fast lense to use at low light conditions and to practise my `framening` with a prime lense .
I` d like to spent about 200-250 euros .
If i still like the manual focus after a while i always can look for something better .

Thanks in advance and please excuse any mistakes i may have done .

Panos .

Then I would suggest a Jupiter-9 90mm f/2 and a MIR-24N (or MIR-24M) 35mm f/2
The Jupiter should be found around 100 Eur and the Mir around 60-80 Eur

80 EUR /each let we see

Yashica ML 28mm.
Pentacon 29mm
Vivitar 28mm (Tokina or Kiron made serial start with 37 or 22)
Kiron 28mm

Flektogon 35mm f2.4 MC with big luck
Flektogon 35mm f2.8 zebra
Vivitar 35mm

Jupiter-9 85mm f2.
Nikkor-H 85mm f1.8

Well used copies are fit into your budget even from 85mm focal length.

Regarding the jupiter i see that there is a difference in price depanding on the mount .
The m42 seems to be more expensive .
Is there any differences beside the obvious ?

Thank you ,

Panos .

M42 most popular due compatible with almost any systems.

Your Canon can use lot of type of lenses, Nikon, Olympus OM etc.

So don't hunt M42 ones.

There are not many affordable 85mm lenses. I would go with a 55, 58, or 100mm (or both). 85's just end up being a bit more expensive.

55mm or 58mm makes a good half body portrait lens, and 100mm a good head and shoulders portrait lens.

Tamron Adaptall 2 90mm. Very sharp at F4 on and acceptable at F2.5.

Helios 44-2 (58mm), or Pentacon 50mm (watch for oily iris), both good lenses and very cheap.

Meyer Lydith (30mm) it's not so fast but decent lens esp for the price (although these are rising).

I'd also recommend a 50/55/58 mm lens for the portraits when used on an APS-C camera, on your Canon a 50mm makes a 80mm lens effectively

50mm lenses are many great performers that can be had very cheaply ( e.g. Helios 44-2 ) for portraits I always choose my 1.4/50 Takumar but it will cost you as much as the J-9

fast 28mm and 35mm great recommendations above, could include the Tamron Adaptall 2.5/28, Vivitar 1.9/35, Nikkor 2/35, Takumar 2/35

DON'T BUY KIEV OR M39 RF JUPITER 9!
Unless you have RF camera.
EDIT: Sorry, was that obvious?

Portrait:

Nikkor 1.8/85 (if you can find one for this money)
Asahi Takumar 2.8/105 (if you can find one for this money)
or
Jupiter-9 2.0/85 (and accept the softness wide open)

28/35mm:

Asahi Takumar 3.5/35 (if you don't need a fast lens)
MIR-1b 2.8/37 (if you don't use a full frame cam)
Vivitar 2.0/28 (if you can find one, much worse at full frame, though)
Vivitar 2.5/28 or 2.8/28 (sometimes they go for very little money)

Or you invest some more bucks and buy a
Leica Elmarit-R 2.8/35 (for about €150 to 200)!
