My hardly used Biometar 80/2.8 MC really is fantastic. It's IQ knocks spots off the Summicron-R 90 (which, admittely, is not rated the sharpest of the Leitz lenses) .

With this sort of macro shot, the Summicron would give quite strong yellow CA, even stopped down ... the Biometar does not give even a hint of CA at 100% on a 21MP sensor and is as sharp as a razor. I really can't see how a $2,000 West German Planar could be any better.

Canon 5D II is a fantastic camera almost any lens perform amazingly. On small sensor like I have on Olympus E-1 many of them perform so so. Biotar 80mm works perfectly on E-1 too. Nice shoot! I am planning to keep my P6 lenses and Konica lenses okay some others too , but rest of it will go.

Perhaps it is the size of the pic but I do not see a particularly sharp shot ?

I have to agree with Patrick, the picture is certainly beautiful and tasteful, but I am not seeing any special sharpness there.

Yes, it isn't a good example of sharpness at all. It was shot with a 20mm tube (at f4, actually) and then shrunk down from full size to 900MP, which destroyed the minuscule depth of focus.

Here is one I just took to show what the lens actually can do. This is without the tube, 100% crop (72dpi) from a 5D2 frame at f2.8.

This crop has good sharpness indeed.
