You have nice Contax lens set already so they need a king , not an Eos .. right. _________________ -------------------------------

I have a 50mm so i can't compare
but my camera is hidden in the bag, and taken on the shoulder just to take pictures. it might be eye catching, despite the digital era, so no risks taken.
by the way is the handling wit ha 135mm good ? cause my worst enemy is hand held heavy lenses , i thin that a hea.... better built body may improve handling. thanx for any infos _________________ Happy owner and user of :

I have five Contaxes (spot a pattern?), but the RX is my favourite by a long way. It is solid without being over-weighty, it sits beautifully in the hands, and it has capabilities I haven't even used yet. I like it best with my 50/1.4 Planar mounted (it's a preference thing, it's equally at home with the 85 or 100 or 135 Sonnars) and few, very few, are in the same league. _________________ Alex |

I can not decide between RX, AX and RTS III and because of this, the Contax III is my only Contax Camera.
Orio, don't you have both cameras, the AX and the RX? What is your opinion?
Now with the unexpected apperance of my darkroom equipment, I need to make a decision. _________________

Both are excellent
RX is less bulky
AX has the possibility of autofocus for those who may need it
I love both, if I had to choose one I would keep the AX, but I have large hands _________________ Orio, Administrator

Autofocus on the AX is ingenious ; it does it, not by moving the lens, but by moving the film plane. So any manual CY bayonet lens can be mounted yet be focussed automatically. _________________ Alex |

AX is like having 10 mm extension tube inside, one click of the switch
you get close focus ability without using AF. This is very convenient too,
for certain lenses whose MFD is not too short for your liking.
OT: The designer of this ingenious AF made AF SLR at Yashica era, but
he or his company could not obtain the patent due to 6 months late
against Minolta alpha 7000 (world first AF SLR). Anyway later year,
just before his retirement from Kyocera (changed from Yashica at that
time), Kyocera CEO (Mr. Morita) said to him to go ahead for the designer's
pet project of this AF system. So he succeeded to complete Contax AF.
He was retired happily at least he made a world first kind of AF system.
I like my AX, and do not mind to get another one for a backup. (At KEH
there is one for a sale with price of ~US$500.) _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

Not Really. MM stands for "multi mode" in Contax's term, which means
the lens with MM can be used, Av, Tv, M, and most importantly Program
mode.
The most of us who come to this MFlenses may not use Tv and P mode,
or at least use only occasionally. This is my uncorrected prejudice.
HOWEVER, MM lenses mostly made in japan have some improvements
such as less internal light reflection, better shape of iris and more consistent
quality. (It does not mean always better than AE lenses, some of AEs are
really superb.) _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

I have the AE 1.7/50 Planar, and the MM 1.7/50 Planar. Optically, I can't tell the difference between them. The only way I can tell for sure is to look up my photo notebook.
Like most people, my auto usage mode is almost invariably Av, so I wouldn't hesitate to choose an AE lens if it had a price advantage. _________________ Alex |
