I'm buying slowly lens in M42.

Now I must choose, at the same price (u$s 40), between :

1- S-M-C (not SMC) 50/1,4 Takumar

2- Auto MC chinon 55/1,4

I need your help, guys.

Which to choose?

Thanks in advance. Rino.

I had both and I must say that the S-M-C has an edge in sharpness. I also liked the bokeh of the S-M-C more.

Having said that: US$40 is a steal for a nice S-M-C 50mm f/1.4 Takumar.

The Chinon (Tomioka clone) should be a good lens, I had Porst and Cosina MC 55/1.4 - but it's softer around f/1.4-f/2.8 and more variable in quality (both optical and mechanical) than Takumars.

Comparative test is very important. Thanks for the information. Very usefull too.

It's seems to me that the S-M-C- win. Rino.

I want to buy S-M-C Tak for that price too! I payed a lot more for my mint SMC Tak and am very happy with it. I don't know anything about the chinon, but S-M-C Tak, AFAIK, is optically the same as SMC version, and it is an excellent performer. And built quality is great too.

Looking at your equipment list, you sure seem to like the 50mm neighbourhood Smile

Sure, I love the 50-105 mm range.

But the list is old, not actualized. Some in and some out.

Rino.

I don't think the Takumar is optical much better, but very nice anyhow.
I had three Chinon 55mm, all three with sticky aperture, the two Pentax lenses are fully working.

Yes. The chinon 55 mm it seems to be a tomioka design, a good lens. But the takumar have the fame of great lens.

My father had the 8 element Super takumar in 1964 or 1965 and he was very happy with it. After he went to the rolleiflex 6x6.

I will buy the S-M-C (if it continue in the shop). And will compare head to head to my pancolar 1,8/50.

So I can see by miself which is better to use.

Thanks for all. Rino.
