I knew nothing about this lens -- until .. now!

Thanks to my wife who placed a bid for me last SAT ! Smile

I got it from Italy - some fungus in there (the seller didn't mention about it) but who would have complained..?? Smile

My impressions?

CA - none!
fringing - none!
Sharpness -- incredible -- even wide open,,
colours - wow!
bokeh - good? I don't know - I am not a bokeh specialist
against the sun -- very good performer -- see picture n 10
using a flash -- superb!

I can say this: in colours, contrast, 3D, fringing -- same as Distagon 2.8/21 - I am not joking..

Focusing -- very tricky -- but LiveView helps a lot..

Congratulations! Great results as always!

Hmm... in the case of your wife the MF addiction seems to be contaxtious, and I see that you have left your camera gear lying along with your daughter´s toys - trying to get her addicted, too?

These are over the top in pure "goodness". What an obviously GREAT lens! And you always have some really fine so-called snapshots that are actually artistic tomes in themselves.

This seems to be a lens that, if you only had one lens and it was this Tessar 45, then it is masterful enough and you are masterful enough to simply use the lens for the rest of your life. Colors, purity, sharpness, bokeh....magnificent.

I have to say, I just browsed the images and, what a remarkable clarity !!

How did you develop the RAWs?

P.S. Another question: I see that you shot using viewfinder. How did you overcome the problem of the clashing mirror? I can use my Tessar 45 only in LiveView mode.

many thanks for all your comments

@ my wife: she is very good on bidding -- Smile I gave her an instructions via phone and she did it.. Smile

@ Orio - post-process done in LightRoom -- sometimes I don't like a results of this application -- sometimes are very good ...

If any crops required -- let me know Smile

I would recommend crop from ladybird and poppy Smile

How cool Trifox, this lens is really great, at least in combination with the 5D II Smile
Great pictures!

It looks as though we need to redo the gallery with lens tried on the MkII - it really does seem to bring out the best in certain lenses - this one included. A great and stunning series

thanks! --

I have to say this -- I saw a few crops -- ! Oh now! This little piece of hell is able to create such a nice pictures!

I think that this lens has an APO-like performance ..

I know only one lens with the same optical quality - Distagon 2.8/21 but D21 is prone to flare and Mr. Tessar The Hell -- NOT!

Orio - I used it in both modes -- NORMAL and LiveView -- I could see or hear any mirror problems..
I don't know where the problem could be in your case..

I don't want be annoying Smile but here's the gallery with a selections of crops

Well, the sharpening algorithm in LR is not the best...

ODD -- full size, EVEN -- crop.. Smile

You seem to have been extremely lucky with your copy of 5DMkII
My copy is more forgiving than the original 5D, but some lenses still don't clear the mirror (completely or partially), and the Tessar 45 is one of them.

oops ! I am really sorry to hear about your trouble !!

5D Mk II is not a cheap thing and it should be the same across the world!
Do I suffer from hearing impairment disease then? I don't know Sad

----------

My Tessar is Made in Japan -- and I use adaptors they are quite thick ..

Maybe I used wrong words
I mean that my Tessar does not clear the 5DMkII mirror.

A very well known pancake lens and again it proves how great it is on a 5D MkII

Great images - Congrats!!!
