Air show was back at Andrews Air Force Base this week. Managed a few shots Thursday, Friday and Saturday. My shop is right near the end of one of the runways, so I just sit in my parking lot to take photos.

All with Nikon 4.5/300

Not cropped

These are crops from larger photos

Those are really nice Mike. Nice work.

What I wouldn't give to own a corsair. When I was going for my pilots license all I could think of was building a replica corsair or P51 mustang.

I am a big fan of the Corsair thanks to Baa Baa Black Sheep on TV.

I like most vintage war birds.

Good spot you were in! And some interesting angles on those. I like the Corsair shot particularly.

We only have one of the T-birds at San Francisco Fleet Week usually. It would be interesting to compare their routine vs the Blue Angels.

Nice ones ! I previously lived near an air base and also could see the airshows from my garden. I also have a soft spot for Corsairs.

I really enjoy the T-birds show when they came here .. BTW, your pic is particular as they are flying with a F16D. I wonder why ? Did you take the picture during the show or on arrival/departure ?

Thanks!

All the photos were during an actual show or practice. All the wheel down shots are when the planes were landing after the completion of their particular routine.

I noticed right off that one of the Thunderbirds was different, canopy is different than the others. I do not know why this is.

It is a two-seater that usually is not part of the acrobatic figures. That plane is used for liaison as well as a demo bird (for visiting high ranking officiers or other VIP's)

Fantastic shots, Mike! Really like 2 and 4. Would these be called PIF (plane
in flight)? Smile

Thanks guys, I really enjoy it when the Air Show comes to town. I really wanted to get a shot of the Super Hornet when it broke the sound barrier. I got the shot, but it was flying with the Corsair. I was shooting in Aperture Priority and was using the aperture to control the shutter speed. I had the aperture closed down all the way (f/22) to get the prop blur when the Corsair landed then the jet came screaming in. I didn't even have time to open up the aperture a few stops. Still impressive when the sound barrier gets broken 200 feet away from where you are standing.

Maybe next year I can nail this shot.

Great shots as these birds are not easy to be captured that tightly.
