Taken with the CZ Planar 50mm 1.7 wide open, focus in the middle flower.

Jes.

Hi Jesito,
I like it. Back lit subjects are often dramatic in this case you managed to retain the delicacy of the flowers in a warm and quiet mood.

Thanks for your kind opinion, Marty.

I miss some sharpness.
I had to underexpose by 2 steps because the Planar fools the Oly metering.
Not sure if it's also somewhat shaked.

Regards,

Jes.

No sharpness, no details I think not good Jes.

I think that the idea of the curtain is very good because it echoes the shape and even the light substance of the flowers.
However i miss that bit of curtain on the lower right.

I think worth re-shooting with the curtain set to full cover the background.

I really like the concept of foreground out of focus, subject in middle ground in focus, and then background out of focus. I would like to see more of the right hand flower, as the cut-off seems to un-balance the image. This is an image worth pursuing!

I would say the same Jes Confused
it is a too difficult light for digital dslr, highlight are burnt, shadows miss details
maybe a fill-in flash could bring more contrast

Hi colleagues,

Your opinions confirm my thoughts...
Since the flowers are still fresh I'll try again the concept, this time with the tripod and several different lenses. Maybe the Planar on the Oly is not the most appropriate set for this. I'm also wondering if the C/Y to 4/3 adapter is good. With other C/Y lenses it sticks at the end, but with the Planars (I've tried it with my two Planars) there is no click at the end of the turn, when mounting the lens. So the lens is not locked on the mount.
Thanks for commenting!.

Jes.

Jes

I agree with all above comments - I think the mystery of the flowers would be enhanced if they were sharp although shadowed

Do you like it like this?

It's just: overexpose the background, move the curtain, leave some space on the right, convert to B&W

I think this is improved really.

The semi-transparency of the flowers is interesting now.
