... I bet that Leitz would not be ashamed to have published such a lens under his brand name.

Sirmione (Garda lake):

OK I have cheated a bit with these 100% crops, I applied some little presharpening.
Of course if I did apply that to the Elmarit photos they would have pierced the screen.
But, I believe in the social system Wink so I think it's fair to have helped a little the Helios lens because:

A) it costs about 30 to 50 times less
B) the Elmarit took advantage of the 12,8 Mp of the 5D, the Helios was on the 400D.
(and I applied only little amount, so...)

So here's the first one:

Not bad at all.

I don't think that that lady in the right corner agree your photo manners. If the look could kill you'd be dead by now.
Anyway, beautiful clours and pretty good sharpness.

Well the sharpness isn't Leica but it's not bad either.

And the corners and side of the frame are same quality as the center. Not bad for a standard lens from the 60s !

And consider that I did not boost the saturation! This is the "normal" setting of the camera. Did not touch it in Photoshop.

The lens isn't the problem, often seen for 1 Euro together with a crappy Zenit E. But flying from Ohio to this location may be a cause for serious damages to your account balance. Very Happy

Same observations here. Not only with Helios, but with almost any Russian or FSU lens as well. Reds seem to be more saturated and vibrant....perhaps so that red banners photograph with more militancy? Very Happy The same is true even with the older rangefinder lenses from the 1950s. When I was shooting on colour film, this was very obvious. On digital, the colours are even more pronounced.

This are examples shot with a 35mm Jupiter-12 (circa 1990s) on an Epson R-D1s rangefinder camera- saturation is as is, no post processing:
