So i have some lenses in various focal lengths - 35mm, 50mm, 135mm. Which focal length should I go for next? I'm looking for something under 50mm. Any recommendations? I like shooting casual portraits indoors in dim light. Thanks! _________________ Canon EOS 5D MK II | EOS M

Portraits in dim light ?
75-100mm large-aperture lenses !
The second-most expensive lens category btw, the most expensive being good-quality superwides. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Ditto Luis for available light portraits.
The best bang for the buck is the Super Tak 1.9/85 or Zuiko 2/85 at around $200.
Of course sky is the limit from there.
With the cropped body I fell 85-90mm is best when not using a 50 for portraits indoors.
I tell you one lens that you should try and find for a general use lens is a CZ Jenna Tessar T f4.5/40mm.
It is super sharp and a lovely classic tessar look to the images.
Usually can be found for under $100. There are two barrel styles.
The traditional pancake and traditional preset looking style (like the 2.8/50).
If you want to spend more go for the updated Contax 2.8/45mm ($175-$300). _________________ Moderator |

i also would recommend something in the 80 ~ 90mm range, which is an ideal Portrait lens.
I noticed that you do not have this, neither in AF or MF. _________________ No longer member , please don't try to contact to him |

A fast and not expensive portrait lens is the Jupiter-9 (90mm f/2)
But since you are on an APS-C body i would use a fast 50mm instead for portraits.
For interiors I would recommend a superwide, that will become a wide on your APS-C
24-25mm at least, even better if 20mm or less.
I think that the most affordable 24mm is the Tamron, while the most affordable 20mm should be the MIR-1 _________________ Orio, Administrator

Excellent recommendations! My words exactly.
85mm can be too long on a crop cam indoors! _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!
