Hi.

I'm looking for a M42 lens that's wider than 28mm and preferably under $100. Do any exist? What options would you suggest?

Thanks!

Vivitar with M42 mount , some of them has interchangeable TX mount even if buy with other mount you able to find M42 mount too.
I heard good things about Tamron 24mm too.
Take a look on Kiron 24mm f2..

Some other possibly cheap ones

Vivitar/Soligor brand 24mm Tokina-made in T4 mount

Vivitar 19mm/3.8 Cosina-made

I have these.

You can sometimes find the Tamron Adaptall 24/2.8 for less than $100

Wow, thanks to everyone for the quick responses.

Is there a way to physically identify a TX or T4 lens with a mount already installed? Sorry if it's a silly or common question... TX and T4 are completely out of my range of knowledge and I'm terrible with forum search functions Embarassed

try to fina a Takumar 24 f3.5

there is the Super-multi-coated (SMC) version and Super version.

Super version is good but a little more economic.

Well, I picked up a Zenitar 16/2.8 fisheye for under $50, but that was a long time ago; guess these are more expensive today. Still, it's a very good option with great sharpness from f/4, little CA and excellent flare control.

The Zenitar 16's are at about $200 regularly. Maybe a bargain can be found though. I have been looking.

I saw that too, but unfortunately it doesn't help distinguish between a T4/TX lens with a mount installed and a fixed-lens version of the same lens. I suspect as you have that there may be unknowing sellers listing their T4/TX lenses as ordinary fixed-mount lenses.

Thanks for the recommendations aoleg and iridium.

I saw two Zenitars at the fair yesterday. One was 120 Euros the other one 100 Euros.

To definitely ID a T4/TX mount lens, look for the lump in the back about 120 degrees counter-clockwise from the top of the lens, with the
O<- ->L mark. The catch button is on top of it.

Rick Olesons picture of the mount shows it clearly.

The other way to tell if it is a T4/Tx - ask the seller if the aperture numbers run in both directions - ie. from right to left, and left to right as well. That, and the lump Luis mentions are the telltales.
