The same day I went to Carrara I also made a "hit and run" trip to Lucca to deliver some things to one of my cousines.
I did not have the time to stop at any of the famous places, but I took a couple snapshots along my way:

01. Distagon 2/28 on 5D
Batoni exhibition advertisement:

02. Distagon 2/28 on 5D
Piazza Napoleone (Napoleon Square):

03. Sonnar 2.8/180 on 50D
Statue of Maria Luisa Borbone in Napoleon Square (a Napoleon statue was originally planned but he did not last long enough...)
I photographed it because it reminded me of our censorship discussion, it made me wonder if this statue would be censored in some nations because of it's quite obvious subject...:

04. Distagon 2/28 on 5D
A part of the walk upon the big city walls:

05. Distagon 2/28 on 5D
A part of the walls seen from below, I am really happy with this photo:

That Distagon is clearly one of the finest lenses available anywhere and you do such a fine job with it Orio. Yes the last one is special, but for some reason I really like #1 too.

Very appropriate link!
Yes, this is a debate that is going on and both sides have some reasons.
On one side, to think that you can stop change and progress (whatever it would mean) by prohibiting fast food restaurants, it's a bit naif and also unfair under certain extent.
On the other hand, there are already a thousand menaces to the historical places: pollution, natural decay, lack of funds for restorations, and so on.
I think it is important to preserve for as much as possible the original look of historical places from the invasion of the modern day's vulgarity. This because these places are a heritage not just for the inhabitants, but for the whole humanity.
A point of balance must be found, and I think that prohibiting the fast food within the historical centre, and allowing it just outside of it, can be a fair compromise: it will not stop the new commercial activities, and at the same time it will help preserve the historical centre from the degradation. Those who want to eat a Big Mac can just walk outside the walls and have as many as they want. To reach one of the wall gates means just a 10 minutes walk from any point within the walls, at the worst.

Hi Orio,
To me, the last is the best one, (although all of them are very fine).
I like very much the composition with the reflections, the excellent light balance and the general sharpness.
A nice lens, no doubt.
Kind regards,
Jes.

Thanks!
If you think of the pool as a tear in a curtain, or a hole on the abyss... wouldn't the image give a sense of, like, vertigo?... At least it feels like that to me. I would imagine to go to the edge and jump down inside the clouds...

These are all excellent pictures, but to me it is number one. It is so crisp, I fell I can reach out and touch the sign.

#1 for me too. Cool

There's an interactive tangibility about it that just makes it work.

Thanks guys. That's the magic of the Holly 2/28 used at it's sweet spot Smile

I took the same scene at f/8 also but it does not even have half the charme.
