Well, it's almost Spring, and you know what that means - yet MORE Crocus pictures! I guess it's just that they are such a surprising splash of color after all the gray days, that it COMPELS you take a few shots.
So here are some snaps with the new Sigma SD-14. Go easy on me on these, as I am only scratching the learning curve on this. I actually am clumsy with the camera, and have to learn the controls a little better to even start to produce something that might really jump out at me.
I do want to say that I am enamored with this new acquisition, a brilliant Pentax SMC 100/4 Macro lens. Not only is the focusing smoooooth as butter, but the optics are first-rate. VERY quick and easy to use, and the huge focusing ring grips spins like it was on heavy ball-bearings.
This is probably going to find a permanent place in my bag. A very handy lens indeed, for both macro and landscape (probably good length for portraits as well).
Pretty much the standard Crocus image
A crop of the above, looks more balanced to me
The 100/4 is very acceptable for "standard" images too
Full extension into the heart of a Crocus. Bokeh is very good with smooth fall-off and not too offensive highlights for an f:4 lens

Seems to me it's a very finicky chip, but rewards with stunning results when it hits. _________________ DSLR: Nikon D300 Nikon D200 Nex 5N

Your closeups are great as always, Larry, but I personally love the landscape, because it is a type of composition that I always enjoy, with all the different planes (the clouds, the mountains, the hill, the big ships, the little boat), that really drive the viewers look into the distance. Very, very good, and making me wish to see more. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Hi... I saw a SD14 for 312 dollars.. if I go for it how would a Pentax lens fit? Is this an M42 adapter job? I understood that the SA mount and the K mount are very similar?? too?
Thanks for any info, in advance,
Doug

Thank you SO much, each of you. I love to get opinions on images, and don't mind if they are "constructive" or otherwise.
Doug, these images were taken with the Pentax mount Takumar SMC 100/4 with NO adapter needed.
I understand that some of the Pentax mount lenses are a bit loose (only about 1mm) in the matchup. However, that's not the case with my 100/4.
I have to back off from Infinity because the lens focuses past Infinity, but that's really no big deal at all to me. I think it is well worth picking up some Pentax mount lenses. And, of course, if you already have them, so much the better.
I also use my M42 lenses with the adapter, with no adjustments of the lens needed.
Good luck, that is a great price on an SD-14. _________________
