Using Eclipse E2 on Lenses???

What harm can occur to lenses by cleaning them with the Eclpse E2 solution? Is it true the original Eclipse formula is a good one for lens cleaning?

Eclipse is "reagent grade ethanol", which is available in bulk (liter) from chemical supply houses at much lower cost.

E2 is weaker, with a tiny amount of distilled water added; Eclipse says E2 is better for sensors with anti-static coatings (as Eclipse has proven too strong a solvent?), it evaporates more slowly, use less, 1 drop instead of 2 or 3.

I see no reason why E2 cannot be used on lenses -- not as strong, evaporates more slowly, and use less.

Joel from Photographic Solutions called me back and said that there was initially some question to the use of E2 on lenses, but it has since been proved that the retailers' statements, "E2 is NOT to be used on lenses or critical optics," is "simply not the case." "E2 is perfectly safe to use for claning lenses and other optics... there should be no problem using E2 for those purposes."
