The mother and baby shot is very nice.

I think yes very acceptable for wide open if I remember as well Nikkor 24mm f2 wasn't better at all at wide open.

Most fast lenses aren't sharp wide open but some sharpen up faster at wider apertures (within 1-2 stops)than others

This is my experience too, but some lenses really , really sharp at wide open and they are pretty fast , none of them wide angle lens.

Thank you guys! A nice zoo great place for relax especially at winter working days ,no people there, just lovely "prisoners" and silent.
