Hello,
Today arrived my second Chinon: an Auto Chinon Multi Coated 2.8/28mm with both caps, and original chinon case in perfect condition.
Hope to have some time in the weekend to test it on the digital. It has, just like the 50mm, the same K Pentax mount and it was about 1 GBP more expensive (shipping included). _________________ Canonet QL17 III

I have not used it too much lately as I also found a Tamron 28/2,5 that I really like as well.
Both of them perform very well, I guess I should compare them side by side one day...
1 picture I took with the Chinon, close to where I live :
The pic does not show much on the sharpness, but this lens is very good!

At 1/400s you should have very good sharpness
The border don't look so good maybe jpg compression or you don't close enough aperture. _________________ T* |

Thanks Poilu,
I meant this picture in particular was not very sharp, but it is the only one I have with me now.
Otherwise, I can confirm this lens is very good (at least according to my standards... ).
It also has a very long focusing range for that focal length (I can't remember how much, and I'm away from home... ) _________________ Pentax K5, K10D + grips.

I know this is somewhat of an old post but I thought instead of starting up a new one of the same title I would hopefully reinvigorate discussion concerning the Chinon 28mm. About two days ago I won a nearly mint version of this lens with front and back caps and a leather case (along with a very nice set of extension tubes with box and instructions and caps) for 19 USD. I thought it was a pretty good deal. Though I may sell the tubes since I have a beautiful set of praktica-make ones.
I wondered if anyone could venture a guess at how it would stack up against the mir 10A 3.5/28 and the pentacon 3.5/30 (meyer lydith copy)?
Thanks in advance

Hello Monte,
I have the same lens in very good condition and do like it very much. It is slightly soft wide open but at F8 it is very sharp. I do like the color rendition all around.
Here it is, on a 40D, wide open:
And here at F8
I tried to get the model to wash her face but she told me to do something sexual with myself.

Yes it is a sharp lens. A like it but it is more prone to flare than the SMC coated Pentax kit lens (AF 18-55) of mine so I think than the Pentax counterpart, the 28mm f:2.8 could be better but its more expensive than the Chinon ( see some comparisons between older 28mm lens http://www.pbase.com/steephill/28mms )
A sample on "full frame" ( I mean film - Fuji Reala 100 in a Petri GX-1 )

If you buy a rubber hood, it will be easy to cut it to fit your Chinon's 28mm without vignetting. That will fix the flare (at least the lateral one, of course if you shoot into the sun it's another matter, but then nearly all lenses would get flare) _________________ Orio, Administrator

Aha . . mine doesn't say Auto, but is has the Auto-Manual switch.
Mine says: CHINON 1:2.8 f=28mm multi coated 827484 52Ф
This is apparently a different lens. |
